I'm new to modelling but I would like pointers as to the most efficient way of making models (including ripping animation from other models as I really only care about the 3d model itself). I've been playing around with Genie. Reading up I'm considering the Blender route seems most popular to export into mdl. Also you can see Genie doesn't do that well on textures but since W3 is a really old game it doesn't really matter when the poly is low (I'm making this for a map to play either in classic with option to play on reforged)

If I wanted to get new models for Warcraft 3 from various "theme" (marvel, superhero, spongebob, I don't know...), I'd go over this site and scroll through game from the 2000s era on this website : The Models Resource
Then I'do the animations myself.
I believe that AI is too inaccurate for artistic purpose.
