I've found out that for example if you make a unit into a building, it keeps everything you changed and added, which can no longer be changed, as a unit. Like building a building.

A building can build another building only if you set it to unit give it the buildings it should build and then change it back to building. And I must ask why don't they just add it straight way? Why it hides the options when you set it to building. It's strange.

This also applies to specific options for hero units and hero buildings.

Yes this has always been the case.

You can easily workaround this limitation by using custom config SLK to make the fields you want to always show.
In all fairness, I already partially do that, and there is no side effect, my map can be opened by anyone else as it only changes fields visibility in object editor.

The reason why they did this is obviously to preserve consistency of object data, and avoid some potential problems with certain fields (I suppose giving a pathing texture to a Hero that has movement might not end up well for example.
