I checked up at the tutorials. they use alot of programs. and the names are very similar in some cases, wich leads to confusion. so my question is:
Whats the most used program(s) in terms of making a model??? (skin, animation...)

you can use milkshape which costs 45$ or something like that or you can buy a advanced program called 3ds max which costs 3495$. But start out with milkshape because its really user-friendly and easy to use. - those 2 programs can also be used for animations.
skin and icons: You can use photoshop or gimp. I have photoshop and i prefer that but some people prefer gimp.
Remember: Google is your friend so you can go search for the programs. (photoshop is expensive)

You should say what you want.
For 2D art i would suggest photoshop, gimp or paint.net.
Photoshop is expensive but also contains some useful things.
Gimp contains almost as much as Photoshop but is free.
Paint.net is also free but doesnt have as much features as Photoshop and gimp, thought its easier for some people.

Im using Gimp myself, mostly because Photoshop is too expensive but its still a very good program.

well yea photoshop is kinda expensive i dont know the prize in US dollars but in DKK its 20000.- i believe. But if you are going to do a career on computer painting or something then you need photoshop but for warcraft 3 skins and icons gimp and paint.net can do it too ;)
