The sound is stolen from what?

I listened to Beirut - Nantes a few days ago and the music found in the intro is stolen somewhere. I just can't figure out from where.


I am pretty sure it comes from an old strategy game - maybe Age of Wonders but not sure.
Let me know if you've also heard the sound before or not.
If you have - care to guess?

I found this comment on the song, that someone had posted-

"the audio sample in this song is from Jean Renoir's "La Bete Humaine", a great film with Jean Gabin."

Now I do not know if that is correct?
But that movie seems to be french, and the album which the song is on, "the flying club cup" is inspiret by some hot air baloon festival from paris, that started in the beginning of the 1900's, and the songs on the album is intended to evoke a different french city.
