The Lost Artifact [Beta]

This bundle is marked as useful / simple. Simplicity is bliss, low effort and/or may contain minor bugs.
This is my first campaign here. It's just beta because i'd like to know what you think about it. And maybe you can help me at some problems. :)

I'm sorry, but I'm not very good at triggering and my english is bad, but i did my best. :D

The Story:
It's the story of Marcus.
He's a Footman, who lives in a small village near a forest in a Valley.
He had a normal life... until some people found something...

Features:
- 2 Custom races
- diffrent chapters
- many ways to reach a goal

Idea:

I already played 2 much maps/campaigns with same idea!
You need to be more creative and try to create something unique!
Also why you use blizzard created names, Dalaran etc etc!
Create some new names...

Map description:

Your map description is same like idea, simple without colors, only few basic stuff!
Here check this one:

Ingame description / Custom GI:

You didn't changed game interface and that is bad!
Go to Advanced -> Game Interface and explore it a little!
Tutorial below can show you few things about it!

Terrain:

Well I didn't liked terrain at all!
Sorry, whole map terrain look a little strange!
Few tiles, created walls with trees etc are really bad!
You should use some custom imported doodads etc etc...
Here I have something for ya:

Triggers:

Triggers looks bad (well some)! Here is example!
  • Vor Endkampf
    • Events
      • Unit - A unit enters Endkampf <gen>
    • Conditions
    • Actions
      • Unit - Move Beastmaster 0173 <gen> instantly to (Center of Gebiet 005 <gen>)
      • Trigger - Turn off Vor Endkampf <gen>
      • Cinematic - Send transmission to (All players) from Beastmaster 0173 <gen> named Barthog: Play No sound and display My name is Barthog..... Modify duration: Add 0.00 seconds and Wait
      • Unit - Order Beastmaster 0173 <gen> to Attack-Move To (Center of Endkampf <gen>)
Why not to change Trigger - Turn off Vor Endkampf <gen> into ->
Trigger - Turn off (This trigger)

Off Topic :D said:
I want to say that I posted only GUI tutorials that can be found on THW you can also visit many other sites like wc3c or the helper net etc etc...
Why GUI, well I know Jass a little, I can understand but I can't explain it, so I posted only stuff that I can help you with!
Also if someone see that some new tutorials are uploaded or maybe deleted tell me so I can fix list, thanks!

Memory Leaks:

I find some memory leaks in your triggers, pls check links above you will understand what they are if you don't already know...
You should define variables in this trigger and few more, and clean leaks!
Example:
Set tmpPoint = Center of some region
Unit - Order Ancient to Attack-Move To tmpPoint
call RemoveLocation (udg_tmpPoint)

How you used Import Manager:

Well you didn't used it ^^' and that is problem!
Import some models and icons!

How you used Object Editor:

You just replaced abilities, units etc etc
It is really hard to find what you want...
This one is small problem but pro map maker should be well organized!

How you used Sound Editor:

Well you didn't used it ^^' and that is problem!

Gameplay:

Gameplay is bad!
No custom units, items, abilities etc etc!
Import some models, icons and stuff!
Change terrain!
Change game interface!
Fix Quests triggers!
Add hints, floating text messages etc etc!
Use Terrain fog etc etc! (open Map Options and change few stuff there)

Honestly there is nothing special about your map/campaign!
I posted many links here, check 10% of them and you will improve your skills for sure!

And for the end my last words:

The Hive includes many talented Warcraft III modders of all skill levels among its users. New members (especially friendly ones) are always welcome. Take a look around and enjoy your stay, may it be long and productive!

Some good places to start include:
Searching the site using the above link always helps, you can learn a lot that way: just reading and learning is usually the best place to start, especially if one feels overwhelmed.

Likewise, the tutorials can really teach ALL of us a thing or two.
The chat room is cool: lots of people can answer questions there.

A few other tips that might help too:
-Always search first! Did I already mention THAT?
-When creating a new thread, make the title VERY specific: so the site's search engine (and we users) can easily understand just what the thread contains.
-Post your new threads in the proper forum: read the descriptions of each one so that you know what to post there.
-If all else fails, just send me a private message! I'll try to do whatever I can to help.

For new users:
If map isn't finished jet, use Map Development forum for that! You can make thread there upload your map so people can tell you what they think just like here! Also for any help with triggers or how to clean memory leaks post triggers and create threads here Triggers & Scripts! Btw if you need any help with WE we have World Editor Help Zone here on THW! And at the end if you need any resource from icons to loading screens check this out Requests!

I hope that my comment helps even a little so you can improve your map, if you want to know more, or just simple ask for something else I will try to help for sure!

Okay, so there are two (playable) missions:

First Mission:
-You have a Footman (Mountain King) and a "Mage from Dalaran" (Archmage).
-You need to get to a certain spot to win.
-There are lots of creeps, and an irritating number of rocks.
-There's one twist: a poison which eats away at your health for the duration of the mission, which is easily overcome by natural regeneration.

This mission had me bored to tears, to be honest. If it weren't for the rocks, I would have just set Eric to autocast heal, while following Marcus, and then told Marcus to attack-move the bottom right corner, hoping for the best. The camera movement early on gets very irritating; I'm not even sure what it was supposed to signify. The terrain looks like you just used the noise tool, then smoothed it a little bit, and you're always getting attacked by things that only Eric can hit.

And, why was there a mercenary camp? You have no food supply, and no lumber. I got kind of excited at the prospect of a Geomancer following me around to cast Slow on everything, only to find that you couldn't actually buy anything.

Second Mission:
-Same two heroes, plus a Beastmaster.
-You inherit a base, which contains no peons, and lacks the food supply to produce them.
-Kill the elves. Save the orcs.
-The elves are exponentially stronger than the orcs.

So, I went to the base you were supposed to get, and a couple buildings were promptly destroyed by the Elves who (somehow) were there. There were no peons, so it was useless, anyway. The fight in the middle looks cool for a while, until you notice that the combatants are just spawned in clumps. The only way to win this was to cheat.

Review Summary:
Terrain: 2/10: There was clearly little effort put into it, but at least it wasn't just a flat plain.
Story: 1/10: There was something about an artifact, and then you had to get to Dalaran. Then you helped the orcs destroy Dalaran.
Gameplay: 3/10: Like creeping in a melee game.
Cinematics: 1/10: The grammar was quite poor. Most of the dialog was inane. The camera angle never changed, and Marcus rotted while unconscious. :hohum:

Well honestly I don't even look at that, new guy, pro map maker, ancient user etc etc!

I will report each fail map!

This is map section and I want to see finished maps without bugs and with nice descriptions!

People stop making maps because they are lazy!
Check my review: if they join to Chat sometimes, if they post some threads, posts in different forums, try to find some friends they can work together, learn faster etc etc... Maybe will he learn how to create awesome systems with GUI or JASS, some other dude, how to terrain, teamplay is key to win many different games, why is WE different...

Quoted for Truth

I think people probably need that first rejection, to spur them into putting greater effort into their next project (or vastly improving the rejected one). If they're the kind to just get sad and quit forever, good mapmaking probably wasn't in their future.

I hope Shadow_Master continues to make maps, so he can get better and show everyone what he is truly capable of.
