Suggestions for sanity test

Unused:
isolated triangles - triangle not connected to other triangles
isolated vertices - vertices not used by any triangle
zero-area triangle
unused matrix groups

I've seen a lot of unused geometry in various models and it adds filesize to the model
 
Maybe. I imagine what you mean by either
animating lone triangles (like broken particles during shatter ) or isolating triangles from bigger geometry for easing of animating...maybe
i mean how default blizzard models have huge chunks that are seamlessly connected in texture wrap but not connected in mesh
