Hello,
I have this idea for a WCIII based stealth map - Spellblade. The idea is that the assassin (or 'spellblade') is inside a castle during the night, and has to kill the king by getting to the royal quarters and killing him as he sleeps (very Macbeth, I know).

To accomplish this feat, the spellblade needs to get across the castle via stealth. He is invisible in the shadows, however lamps, wizards and sciency types have various means of truesight and will alert footmen. This is where the assasiny stuff comes in.

To get rid of the guards and other units, the spellblade requires alot of equiptment that can be found in crates and boxes. He has a dagger and a bow. His dagger is his primary attack - very weak but can break open containers and finish off stunned enemies.

His bow is the fun bit. He has unlimited amounts of arrows, however, they can be enchanted with runes found around the castle. For instance, a water rune will allow him to hit and destroy torches, lamps and fires, preventing them from revealing him, while a shadow rune leaves no blood or corpse.

It should be noted that when a unit dies, he will scream/shout in pain (unless hit by a shadow arrow or silenced in another way). This needs to be worked around, like causing distractions by breaking pots or sending out ferrets and mice.

I would now like to go into some ideas ive had.

ENEMIES

Footmen/Guards - Grunts of the king, pawns if that. They patrol around but have no true sight, rellying on torches and other units to catch the spellblade. When they hit, however, they hit hard.

Torches/Lamps/Fires - Sources of light are a real problem. Whilst they are alight, the spellblade can be seen.

Wizards - Wizards have truesight, but also have polymorph. Polymorph turns you into a sheep, making you unable to move and allowing the wizard to trap you.

Jesters - Jesters are illusionists. They are often hidden, but surrounded by illusions of guards or wizards. Tip - illusions don't show up on mirrors.

Engineers - Engineers are scientists and can make amazing contraptions. They have telescopes, clockwork minions and recording devices that reveal your precence.

The alchemist - the only friendly person (mostly because he is blind). If you get 100 valuables, you get the key to his study. He will turn your dagger and bow into gold, increasing their damage and range, respecively.

RUNES

Fire - Fire arrows can be used to burn entire groups of enemies to death. The process, however, causes them to scream in pain whilst they die and reveals the spellblade in the process - use wisely.

Water - Water arrows can be used in a variety of ways, such as putting out torches or slowing down enemies.

Shadow - Shadow enchanted arrows have the spirits of murderers haunting them. Silent and deadly, shadow arrows silence the enemies they hit and leave no corpse.

Thunder - Thunder arrows are fast and deadly and stun enemies around the target with deafening noise. Good partners with the daggers 'finish' ability.

Disease - Disease silently kills enemies over time and can be used on food supplies to kill off loads of guards.

ITEMS

Dagger - your primary weapon. Fast and deadly. Used to break containers and can 'finish off' stunned enemies. Enemies that are killed with the dagger (not finished off) will yell.

Blackjack - your secondary weapon. Slow and silent. Used to knock out lone enemies. Deals very minor damage. Good partner with the dagger.

Bow - your specialist weapon. Unlimited arrows. Can be enchanted with runes (above).

Keys - keys open doors. Simple as that. Normally carried by captains or people of importance.

Ferret cage - summons a ferret. Ferrets are fast little buggers and can distract guards.

Valuables - Automatically added to your gold. Valuables are an optional thing, but if you reach 100 valuables, you recive the key to the alchemists study.

Mirror - Illusions dont show up on mirrors, but jesters do. Use a mirror to remove illusions and eventually find the real jester.

Mechanism - Unusual scientific implement. They emit high frequency waves to reprogram mechanical units.

Thats it so far. If anyone wants to adopt this idea, please tell me as soon as posible.

sounds like Thief indeed.
I wonder how you're going to do the mirror thing.

Also, doing this a pvp map (where some players are assassins and some guards or something) will be even more awesome.

It would be cool as a pvp map. And also, the mirror was just going to be when you use the item on a unit, a message would pop up and say 'A reflection is shown' or 'There is no reflection' and the image would die (just to get it out of the way sinse you know it isnt real.)
