Specific questions regarding map submissions

Hello Hive community,

this is my first post here but I know this website for quite a while now and have read many threads whenever I encountered some technical problems or questions regarding Warcraft 3 mapping. I hope this is the right subforum because it is not a map editor question but rather a meta question.

I have a long-time mapping project, which I update from time to time, but the last version I publicly uploaded (not here but on epicwar.com) was developed in 2019. Since then, I only played the map with a couple of friends. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by someone who was playing an old version of my map and asked whether there were any updates because I stopped uploading new versions a long time ago.

Since the map might be of interest to others as well, I would like to upload the newest version. I used a ton of icons and models from the community, so I think it is only fair to do it here, where all asset authors have to be credited in the description (and not only ingame in the quest log). I read the submission rules for maps but I was not able to clarify the following questions:

1. I went through all imported files (about 400) and made sure I still have the right author and the right URL for every resource. Some resources are gone though, and in one case I cannot even find the user profile anymore. Is it still OK to use their assets when providing the original author and resource name?
2. Many icons are ripped from World of Warcraft and downloaded via a third-party website that contains a full list of all WoW items and spells. Do I have to give a reference to each of these icons? What would be an acceptable way of doing this? Some of them have been reposted on Hive but most of them are not.
3. I always used a map optimizer to reduce the file size of the map and encrypt it against manipulation (one can probably still edit it but the required effort is much higher). Is this permitted here or do I have to provide the editable "source" version of the map?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Yes. Best effort and you have done your best, certainly. Think of it as a store where you buy groceries to put in your meal. We want you to list the ingredients, even if the store no longer sells them.

You don't really need to post URLs though. Typically the minimum is resource name + author, maybe with @ tagging the author if they are on HIVE. URL would be great though, so don't delete it.

Credit is more important with non-ported things. But I still think a best effort is great. Do as above but personally I would probably be fine with "WoW icons from xgm.ru by authors (x, y, z)". You don't need to track down URLs if you haven't.

Oh we allow map protection sure :).

EDIT: Also, I moved your thread.
