Well, maybe the answer is that who ever cares about copyright doesn't upload his sounds? xD :) Sound is just a very important thing in map making.

Well, when you have your own site, you can do that, but THW doesn't intend to host illegal content, for a number of reasons. I was referring to copyrighted and royalty-prone content created by third parties. And I disagree that sounds are a very important thing in map making, so much so that most maps don't rely on it for anything because they can't rely on users having sound/music on. It is not even "mildly important", it's an "extra".

And I say all of this as a musician. That's just how wc3 maps roll.

That is to bad, and I don't get it how is it illegal?
Well, I agree that most maps don't use custom sounds, but rarely what map uses custom icons and models for that matter, although the sounds are used most rarely I would disagree that they are "extra" just because people don't use them very often. For example, I am making a map that uses a lot of new heroes, and it is just insane if I should put no talking sounds, or even worse to repeat them. For a good map, every component is in the first place. You probably played Heroes 3. The sounds in that game make about 50% of total ingame experience. And in wc3, I rely on unit sounds like confirmation that I have clicked the right key and a unit.

Really, I am very disappointed for no custom sounds on this site. But THW would be perfect otherwise(for me). :D

And I'm a musician too! :D

As I said, there are few people who can produce sounds/music and most of the things uploaded are bound to be illegal in some way.

While I agree that sound in games is important in general, it is just not so for most things in wc3, as you already know. And you can just turn off unit responses as well. Recording 100s of voices for the map is insanely stupid especially since there's no practical way to add soundsets unless you replace them as far as I know (or maybe SLKs can be edited, dunno, it is not a pretty solution either way).

In addition to what HT said, sounds themselves are just normal .wav or .mp3 files. Unlike models and textures, they're not unique to wc3 or have to be adapted to work in any way (using the sound editor and replacing/adding the sounds individually at least). You can find thousands of sound effect websites which will work just as good in most any game/video/what have you. That said, it'd be sort of kind of somewhat interesting if one were to create sound effects intending them specifically as wc3 assets, I guess?
