...for example in Skibi's Castle and also some maps from this site.

It's like this thing where it appears as if a part of the map was wiped for a period of time, creating a flat surface, like a new piece of land, ready for things like character selection or an in-built mini game, and after the player is done with it, the map reverses back to it's original self.

I'm sorry if I can't describe it that well, but I find it difficult to explain :p

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Thanks ^^

There we go.

MapInMap.png

The image on the left is what I meant, and the image on the right shows that afterwards, the map is returned to what appears to be its normal size. In Skibi's Castle TD, I remember this being done at multiple times during the map, not just the beginning, so the game basically "switched" between what's in the left image and what's in the right one.

Hope this makes more sense now ^^

Oh I see. Its about minimap. Check SkibiTD triggers. That should be some camera calls.

SkibiTD is huge and I've checked its triggers before posting this thread, but I can't make much sense of it because it's all too advanced and the trigger pages are really long and complicated. =(

EDIT: Maybe I should direct my question to the creator of the map I got the screens from?

You do realize that mini-map images can be changed in-game right?

The custom path for a mini-map image is: war3mapMap.tga

Here's a small guide on how to change your mini-map image:

EDIT: hmmm, so what if you change the z-offset of your camera and then zoom in...?
That would probably do the same as in your screenshot.
