Skinning i have no idea

ok im just about to finish this model i been working on but its doesnt hve any color or anything just all blank....i never skinned before so wat are the basics..i have photoshop.so how do u skin a model from strach is my main question

well....ye could...base the skin..of...a another model's skin...then go over it..to custom it...
