Sindar Spearman

Made this alternate set of the High Elf models with some minor edits to make them into sindar (wood elf) soldiers. Those are the ones seen in the helms deep scenes of the movie and should fit nicely for those kind of maps.

Cloak is team colored. Made from scratch using 3ds max 5 and Photoshop.

See the slit in the shield? The spear is set in it, to allow the spearman to have a very defensive stance against frontal attacks, the spear is long because the further your range of attack against cavalry the better. Spartans did something similar, where they had soldiers with spears (javelins) behind ones with large bronze shields (back in the day, those were some of the best). While the shields all but made the enemies attacks useless, the soldiers with the spears would reach up and over and dispatch foes. I'm not trying to be rude, but sometimes you just have to look and figure some things out.

And once again, great job Fingolfin :)

I could correct and say that javelins are only light throwing spears, and not the kind of spears the spartans used. They are primarily made to pierce and stick onto enemy shields thus forcing the enemy to drop them and fight undefended.

Yep that's a javelin, other options as how you should call the weapon would be spear, polearm or halberd!

You're confusing that spear with the Roman Pila. A Roman Pila is a javelin used by the Romans that are meant to break upon impact as to lodge itself on an enemy shield and render it useless.

The Spartans used a thrusting spear which they used as a main weapon, be it against infantry or cavalry. They'd only switch to their swords when their spear was grabbed, destroyed, or simply just because the combat conditions became to tight.

Nice ! But Spear A Little Too Long :)

Don't you like your spears long? It would have been more awesome if it was not a spear, but rather, a pike. I really like my spears long and thin. Too bad it's hard to properly implement pikes in Warcraft.
