If you make it clear enough they might not.

Basically large figure totals, and averages devised from them would be useful for gauging your maps popularity.

If your map is popular, you know to work on it more than one less popular for example.

I saw my map as #5 on the most played on the EU server today, what do you think I did :p I spent the last whole freaking day improving the map to go for #1. Unfortunate, Blizzard made it so that when you update your map, it's not directly updated, but posted as a new map. So when people still play the old sucky version, the new version with awesome new features are waiting at the bottom of the list. Anyway, this was just to illustrate your statement with a real-life example :)

This is a good suggestion. I'm sort of doubtful that it will be implemented due to Blizzard having 9001 other things to fix right now.
