yeah it would be definantly cool but would also take much space of blizzard servers.
they already got huge problems with map publishiting without those feature data.
They should keep totals. Like total game starts, total players, total downloads. As those are whole integers it will take only 12 bytes for those 3 values.

they must have some statistics already in the database due to the "popularity" statistic of each map. If they just made this accessible to the creator it would be extremely helpful
I saw my map as #5 on the most played on the EU server today, what do you think I did I spent the last whole freaking day improving the map to go for #1. Unfortunate, Blizzard made it so that when you update your map, it's not directly updated, but posted as a new map. So when people still play the old sucky version, the new version with awesome new features are waiting at the bottom of the list. Anyway, this was just to illustrate your statement with a real-life example
