Screen Capture Issue

So, I'm using Microsoft Expression Encoder 4 Screen Capture to try and record something in the Galaxy Editor. The video is working phenomenally, and the audio is.. well it's working, but it insists on picking up audio from my microphone and not from my computer. I've tried every 'audio source' and they're all exactly the same. What's going on?

Haha! Ohh, I know an easy fix to this... Maybe. I'll edit this post with instructions... But tell me your operating system, please. XP, Vista, or 7?

Windows XP. And I'd love you if did.

Guess whut? That's easy. I don't have Vista ofr 7, but I know XP well. I'm not even ON a damned XP machine, and I'm writing this from scratch.

Click on Start.
Click Control Panel.
Choose to switch to Classic View.
Open "Sounds and Audio Devices".
Click the Audio tab.
Click "Volume..." under Sound recording.
Click on Options.
Click Properties.
Enable "Stereo Mix".
Hit OK.
Close the window.
Hit OK.
Exit the Control Panel.

What this does is it will take whatever sound currently is coming out of the speakers, and also send it to the microphone input. For example, say you're running iTunes and Ventrilo, and have done what I stated above. You also have a PTT button bound for Ventrilo. You begin playing "Ain't No Rest For The Wicked" by Cage the Elephant. Now, you hold down your PTT button. Now, anybody in the Ventrilo channel hears what you hear coming out of your speakers, on top of whatever you say into your microphone, so they hear Ain't No Rest For The Wicked as well. To disable this once you're done recording your footage, simply do all the steps again, but disable Stereo Mix.

Alright. So I've got the audio coming from where I want it to. Thank you. It's coming from the microphone as well though. I tried just muting the microphone, but that did nothing. I can always unplug it, but I'd rather do something easier if possible.

You can also disable audio in where you find stereo mix. It's something like that. Just disable everything but stereo mix while you're recording.

Nope, it still picks up the microphone.

Then just unplug the microphone while recording, or mute it.

For whatever reason muting it doesn't actually work either, but yeah. I guess I can just unplug it.

Thats when you unplug it and it still records what is comming into the microphone! (horror movie laughter)

Anyway you could probably mute the microphone via some option in the speaker volume settings.
