It's much more interesting in real life. I swear I could see bloodlust and enjoyment on the faces of some of the soldiers while watching Ukraine war videos.
They feel like boy scouts once again, except they have real weapons this time. A lot of volunteers (especially foreign ones) don't give a fuck about Ukraine's politics, they're just there for the violence.

I think it's maybe a little bit more about having some excitement in their boring lives.
I have a friend that sometimes works as a police reservist, he really loves the whole riot police thing, since it's basically license to beat people with a baton.
