Red Vs. Blue (Map)

This is the first cinematic (and first map) that I've made and completed. I was messing around with the triggers and I got the crazy idea to take one of the Red vs Blue episodes by Rooster Teeth (39) and make a warcraft version of it. While making this map I had to learn how to work trigger functions, design maps, import sounds successfully, and edit skins. The result was this. I know Halo and Warcraft have just about nothing in common but I figured it would make it that much more interesting to make. Please post your comments on what you think (likes and dislikes). Feedback is everything!

Glad you liked it! If you really thought it was funny you might want to chech out www.redvsblue.com It's the web site that made the episode that I based this map off of. They've got a ton of other episodes as well.

Heh. You modeled it after may favorite episode of Red vs Blue. This is truly great. Did you make those skins specifically for this cinimatic or did you get those from somewhere else? If this really is your first attempt at mapping, then you certainly will have a promising future in wc3 mapping for sure should you decide to make more maps.

HEy man I like it very much , and i think its one hella sick video u made, keep it up , oh yeah and is it hard to make a video clip ? how long did it take u to make the episode?

I'd say it took me over a month to make this, mainly cause I had so little time once school began. I started this in the last two weeks before summer. Back then I was only planning to do a couple lines, just to see if I really could learn how to use triggers. Then when it worked I was further motivated to do the rest of the episode. There were originally going to be no custom skins because I really wanted it to be my own work, but then one of my friends who also watched part of it said I should get the marines a new skin, and there was the fact that the marines never opened their mouths...
This is what got me into learning how skins work and how to edit them. I hardly drew anything, considering how bad my art looks when I draw on a computer and also because I didn't have a mouse. For the characters I took the picture of master chief on the box of Halo, and did a lot of cutting, pasting, flipping, and ajusting the Hue/Saturation. The skins aren't amazing, but they get the job done.

I'm planning to make the next episode after this one, to finish the whole capture the flag scene, but at the momment I've gotten next to nothing done. (Time is everything!) I can say for sure that at least one more episode will be comming out in the future, though I don't know when.

The cinematic was made on a computer with a mouse. But the skins were made on a laptop (the skin editing programs wouldn't work on the regular computer) without a mouse. Instead I had to use this little red dot in the center of the keyboard. In one of the RvB episodes, this is refered to as the "nubbin." :)

Nice cinematic, the concept is great and I love how you worked it out from the actual cinemtaic, though there are a few fronts of working at, you might had applied a slight better camera motion, and you might want to do some filling up the spaces with doodads, in my case, I am not saying this to get you down, I just want to make sure that when you do create your next map, make sure that is better than this one.

I also state my arguments from my expertise which would be to say I have seen over atleast 150 cinematic from all standards, and I have made one cinematic myself, which is claimed to be fairly nice as well.

Thanks for the imput! It's always good to hear new things. I agree the camera motion isn't the best but I tried to base most of it off of the actual episode. It's also difficult to get the camera to work in the right way and not put things out of sync. As for doodads, from what I remember there weren't many in Battle Creek aside from some rocks, but I see what you mean.

Update: I'm slowly learning how to modify models now. I just made a few changes:

-The Spartans no longer have the lights.
-The teleporters on the bases now glow.
-The Spartans have had their heads replaced with a different more realistic head from one of the models on this site.
-The Spartan textures have been redone.
