Ranged/melee hero abilities

I'm working on a map, and I've run across a snag, so far I have problems with 2 hero abilities. Cleaving attack and Incinerate. Cleaving attack seems to only work on melee heroes, and incinerate works just the opposite. I need to know how to make it so that these abilities work with both melee and ranged attacks.
 
I've done more research, and I still can't seem to find anything anywhere in regards to this. If anyone has any experience with this problem, please give me some advice.
 
Well, cleaving does work and incinerate probably the same, but you probably don't want to put two attack-based abilities that give effects like splash. Because these don't stack, like orbs. Also, cleaving attack is sometimes hard to notice, but incinerate should be easy to use if you tweak it
 
I've never gotten cleave to work on a ranged unit, nor have I experimented at all with Incinerate, so I can't recommend anything to fix that. There are other splash abilities, but most of them are static amounts rather than percentages, as far as Cleave is concerned.
