I just wanted to wish a happy Ramadan to all the Muslims out there ^_^

It's going to be a pretty hard month this year since it starts now and ends near the 20th of August. (The sun sets at around 8 PM and it's incredibly hot throughout the day.)

Oooh, UAE? I was there back in 2010, it was really awesome.
My cousins live there, and they come here during the summer every year,
but they didn't come this year because Ramadan came too early (They return
back to Dubai before Ramadan because my aunt has this business of hers that
she needs to manage throughout Ramadan due to the large amount of sales, lol)

My familly lives here and have been here for 1week, 3 weeks to go! I think that Dubai is so "foreigner friendly" during Ramadan.
EDIT: The rule about drinking is still hard on a friday, it's our freeday in Dubai. And we play soccer from 4-6 p.m :# 45 Degress and soccer, not a good combination.

^Australia's population actually amazes me, I mean, there are more people in Australia that have my last name than the number of people with that last name in the Middle East.
That's actually very impressive considering the fact that my ancestors lived in Morocco

Wanna know a fun fact about Fasting in Dubai?

If you're above the 80th floor in the Burj Khalifa, you have to wait 2-3 minutes longer before you can eat.
That building is so high, you can actually see a totally different sunset when you move to the top!

Well hey, I'm an atheist and I fast.
Islam has been in the Middle East for 1436 years, and at some point, the practices of Islam have become part of Arab culture.
That's precisely why I do it. Also, I did it a lot as a child, and I don't want to stop now.

The vice versa is also true. Take for instance the headscarf...you won't find that in the Quran. Another example is Mecca being for Muslims only...except that Abraham is supposedly buried there.

I don't see the reason behind the fasting, it gives no benefits. It just deprives you from food which you need.

However, people can fast if they want to. I ain't gonna stop em. More food for me!

@seal: I believe the reason behind fasting is because they wish to show sympathy towards starving or less fortunate people. That's at least what my friend told me.

We now actually have some for that. It's called the 48 Hour Famine, or I think that is what it is called.

But people can not eat if they want.

NO. You just have to follow the local clothing tradition. And it wasn't Abraham's cemetery that's in Mecca. It's his foothold to place the stones of the Ka'bah. However, it IS called 'Maqam Ibrahim' and in some the languages the word for burial ground is similar to Maqam. So yeah.

Since my sleeping schedule totally shifted by 12 hours, it's been very easy these past few days
Now that I shifted it back 20 hours by sleeping much earlier than usual and waking up far earlier too, I can fast regularly again x)
