Question about Reforged

I still have a lot of copies for older versions of Warcraft III, but standardly, I'm using 1.29. It has been like that since 2019.
Is it worth patching to the latest one (2.0.4)? I'm aware about big changes Reforged had since 1.32 came out.
Are there worthy changes in the game aside from the Custom Campaign (not present in the early builds of Reforged), customizable hotkeys, World Editor-related improvements?
Some people suggested 1.31 is a good choice, but there were some issues with that version.
I'm aware that some custom maps and campaigns now require the latest patch anyway, and making changes on my own altered melee map (from 1.29) using the latest patch will "break" the compatibility for the older WC3 patches.

Couldn't you just patch and keep 1.29 separately, and have both available?
I have two copies of older WC3 versions, 1.29 and 1.31, and it worked fine for me.

Actually, it's still possible to have both WC3 installations. The Legacy TFT 1.29 can be installed from Battle.net app seamlessly along with the latest Reforged patch.

Unfortunately, I don't own Reforged, so I'm stick with the legacy versions.

My legacy 1.29 stopped working the minute BNet patched Reforged after Blizzard released their own 1.29. It says insert CD rom :wgrin:
Is that legacy 1.29 version the one from BNet or Hive??? I only got the normal 1.29 one from Hive.

I don't think current version of WC3 will require CD-ROM as disc check was removed even before Reforged came out. And Reforged can only be launched through Battle.net app.

Could be related to the broken installation.

It was form the old Bnet installer

Edit: I had 1.27, not 1.29 :con:

It's really not worth "patching" to the latest version. It might be worth installing it to a separate folder.* But there's really nothing about the core experience of Reforged that makes it an "upgrade" to the game in any way, unless you want to play online on Blizzard's official servers. It has some really good mods but the tradeoff is lots of technical problems, bloat and and new features that aren't very good.

Reforged is better than it was at launch but still feels like when a great game gets an inferior port... because that's basically what it is. If you don't care about Blizzard's online service I'd just skip it. Unless you're especially curious or just want to play Re-Reforged.

IMO, the best option is still Community Edition, and thankfully it seems like Blizzard intends on making it easier than ever to play that version.

*Be careful if you try, I got it wrong a few times and gave up for a while before I finally figured it out. It was 1.31 and 1.29, not "Reforged". But the same idea.
