Would you be so kind not to protect your map for that reason?
If people want to edit your map, they will - whether you protect it or not.

Valid reason to protect your map:
- reduce the file size (once above 5MB).

That's it.

You will notice that you'll learn a lot more if you don't protect your map, as others can review your map faster and they can notice flaws more easily (such as trigger flaws).
It's only in your benefit to leave it unprotected, believe me :p

Advantages of NOT protecting your map:
- People at the hive will give reviews more easily (I can only give full reviews to unprotected maps for example).
- You will learn from some silly mistakes, which can be noticed more easily by others.
- Others can learn from your map.

The biggest con isn't listed: If you loose your map, your pc crashes or something like that you can still download your map from the official download sites and start working on it again! Then it's NOT lost.

Unless you deprotect it yourself, but then you're stuck with a huge JASS-trigger, and if you don't understand JASS it's quite hard... (especially converted GUI).

But yeah, basically: don't protect your map unless the file size is really big (in that case: use Vexorian's Map Optimizer).
And if your file size is really huge: I subtract points (rating of the map) for files which have been 'randomly' imported and don't really belong in the map (And music can always be compressed).
