Problem with Unit Ready sound

Hello, I never posted so sorry if I get anything wrong. So for my melee map I replaced standard heroes with campaign ones right (so Jaina replaces standard archmage). Since some campaign heroes from WC3 don't have the Ready sound I wanted to give them one by importing lines from WOW which seemed simple. Only to find out some heroes just repeat some of their lines instead of having an empty Ready slot.

Example: normally Jaina has "I can help" as a What sound in her sound set, but she also has one that works as a Ready sound, and both files are named JainaWhat1. It's the same line, that feels lazy, so I'd like to gave her a separate Ready sound. But I can't seem to be able to replace one of the two without changing the other. The same happens with Illidan.

Any solutions or I'm beating a dead horse?

since the "ready" sound is the sound a unit makes when it is finished being trained, a lot of the units that aren't in melee gameplay don't have that soundset slot. jaina doesn't spend a lot of time respawning in the campaign.

if this is important enough for you you can take a unit that has that soundset slot that you do not need for your map, and turn it into a custom version of jaina with the extra sounds. this will be tedious, but should be entirely possible.

Thank you for the answer! Yes it’s a good idea, but with most heroes, I can work it out easily because they don’t have this weird repeating line thing Jaina and Illidan have. Thrall for example has no Ready sound at all, not even a repeated line, so I can just import a new line and trigger him to play it when he’s trained, this way I don’t need to touch his soundset nor replace any sound.

Jaina and some others though, they just repeat one of their lines when they’re ready, which annoys me. I thought about replacing the archmage soundset with Jaina lines and then give THAT soundset to her, that would do, but Illidan specifically would be trickier, because he has significantly less lines than the standard demon hunter and there are no other soundset I can use for him due to the gimmick of the dh soundset. At least I guess?

I'm not sure I really understand the issue. isn't it possible to find an unused soundset with the right amount of voicelines and override it?
I could be wrong, but I had a hard time looking for 2 soundsets with the exact same voicelines for Illidan (cause I need one for both normal Illidan and morphed Illidan). Otherwise the standard demon hunter soundset (which includes the morphed lines) has more lines than Illidan so it would be difficult to effectively override it with Illidan lines.

Ideally the easiest thing would be to keep the Illidan soundset and somehow block his Ready sound* with triggers, so then I can trigger him to play the line I want, but I don’t know if it’s possible.

*which is not actually a Ready sound, he just repeats one of his lines T.T

you could replace what1 with an invalid soundfile and trigger the sounds you want.

I'm beating a dead horse?
very much so

just going to share my opinion here about this whole thread, even though you didn't ask for it -

I have to say that in terms of the normal player experience I really don't think that having what1 play when the unit spawns is a big deal.

having a completely unique ready sound is more important for units that you spam in bunches, and therefore a. hear this sound a lot. and b. count on hearing this sound to know that your unit is spawned. for heroes this is a lot less important since - a. they respawn very infrequently. b. you know when they respawn because you see the portrait light up.

I find this a very curious thing to fixate on when creating a map. I hope this is part of the last stages of perfectionistically polishing up a pretty much finished project. this seems like the amount of tedious effort needed to make this "perfect" is vastly disproportionate to the difference it makes for the player.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way, just my opinion. carry on.

Exactly my first idea but sadly that also blacks out the “I can help“ line when you click on her since it’s the same file.

Anyway yeah on the whole I completely agree with you that this is a very very specific fixation of mine lol, just a little flavory detail I’d like to give to my map (mostly useless gameplay wise, ik). It just kinda bugged me that I could give new lines to all of them except these two for some reason X) and I was hoping there was a quick trigger to fix it. But it surely isn’t that important
