This has happened both times I've installed a mod and the title is basically the problem. I import the model and the portrait file yet when I go to overwrite a hero's portrait with the one I've imported, it states that 'No appropriate imported file exists' I will add at this point that the model works fine. What in Odin's name is going on?

  1. Make sure you follow the instructions described by the model uploader, i.e. the paths of the model file and the portrait file.
  2. Why do you have to to overwrite the portrait file? I think it would be sufficient if you just kept the portrait files named correctly, and it should be selected as portrait file by default... well, I do not have field to select portrait file of a unit in my WE version; it just selects automatically
  3. Sometimes it is better to import the files correctly, and then restarting WE(WE=world editor) for the files to work.....
  4. You may wish to give us a link of the model
This is as far as my little experience in this field:vw_sad:

When I say overwrite the file, I mean when I overwrite an already present hero rather than add a new one, i.e. I would change the Archmage's Portrait file. I don't understand why the model would be found, yet the portrait is not when they are both imported in the same way. This has happened both times I have downloaded a model that came with a portrait. The mod was the Black Mage: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/...-204694/?prev=search=black%20mage&d=list&r=20.

The only thing I change on the file when I import it is deleting the first part, the war3mapImported\ bit.

Okay when I go to change the model of the hero into - in this case the Black Mage - (I don't know how to create new heroes, this way is easier for me) the options for the model are BlackMage.mdx and BlackMage_Portrait.mdx, so the portrait file is importing, but is not being registered as a portrait but as a model it seems. How queer.

I'm about to download http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/models-530/twilight-enforcer-211519/ so I'll see if I have the same problem with this

EDIT: Okay the same thing has happened again, I really don't know what I'm doing wrong! I import both the Portrait file and the Model file. Next I remove the war3mapImported\ from the beginning of each files. Then I go back to the object editor. There's really nothing I can think that I'm doing wrong, urgent help needed :(

If no-one knows how to solve it, is there a thread that I can read that will help me sort it out myself?

EDIT: I've just looked at the http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/models.php?id=fkry1k&p=tutorial_import again and the part where you change the portrait is not there for me, i.e. the Art - Model File - Portrait Strange.

Furthermore I also now think that I was encountering problems as I was trying to change the Art - Icon - Gamer Interface and the Art - Icon - Score Screen to the portrait file, which obviously isn't meant to happen, as they are two different entities. I don't think that the mods I have downloaded game with game interfaces/Score screen files.

this? Yeah, I GUESS it might be because its done on mac

I don't have it either. I had one of those "wait wtf is this" things the first time I read that thing on other guides. I had trouble with this too. Try replacing Art - Game Interface (if thats the name of it, off the top of my head)

Ok the balck mage model worked with me. Here is what I did:
  1. download blabla
  2. import the model file
  3. import model_Portrait file.
  4. closed world editor
  5. openned world editor
  6. object editor>Rifleman and made it new unit> changed model of new unit to black mage. working fine after map testing
  7. object editor> changed model file of archmage(no new unit).working fine after map testing.
**I did not remove warcraft 3 imported or anything. just imported and used it as model.

What the tutorial say is no problem. Even I do not see that field. its for world editor unlimited I guess or something

Sorry for the late replies, I've been kinda busy. Yeah like I said the Art - Game Interface states that there is no imported file that it can use. I don't think the game likes me.

Make sure you saved first before trying to use the files...

no need to close then reopen WE, just make sure you hit save button before you try to use the models, else they really won't show...

btw, you said this happened when you installed a mod... Care to tell us what mod is that?

and I'm curious about how you did this part:

when I go to overwrite a hero's portrait with the one I've imported, it states that 'No appropriate imported file exists'

I don't see a part in the Unit Data where you change portrait models... The portrait field is only present for Destructables...

If you're actually trying to set these two lines to the portrait file then it really won't work because they are ICONS not MODELS...
