Paid Subscriptions

Probably not the best forum to put this in, but what the hell are the "Paid Subscriptions" for?

It's at the bottom of the user control panel, under "Miscellaneous".
The only available one for me is CU, and I'm curious as to what that is lol.
Aparently it's $2.00 monthly! Cheap!

A quick Google search says it's to have different site permissions for people who pay.
It doesn't seem the Hive uses it.

I meant that it's to have different permissions for users that pay.
For example, a site might allow everyone to view the content, but only paying users to post content.
