That lil tower is quite nice. However the differences between the upgrades are too discreet, even worse for the icons (but we are screenshot limited).
Maybe I can start with fewer spikes and add some for each upgrade?
Or maybe make the wooden thingies in the cannon tower team colored so they stand out more?

You could even exaggerate by reinforcing the structure, make the flag bigger and peek the cannons out in the 4 directions.
I would also add the other details the original had in Warcraft 2.
The spikes in the 6 direction overloads a bit too much the design. I'm wondering how it would look with just 4 bigger ones.
The Wc2 cannon tower have open traps because the base tower had almost no windows. Here adding the traps on already open windows is a bit silly.
The front ladder could add more volume, you call.

Hmm I will think about it. The idea was to make it a WC3-style reinterpretation of the WC2 towers, so without the extra doodads and stuff. But yeah it needs something to differentiate them more. And maybe four spikes would be enough too, you may be right :P

I would suggest trying straw roofs, like in WC2 – it would probably help to better distinguish the open gun port shutters of the cannon tower.

But if you want to add more diversity, which I strongly support, and still keep the roof WC3-style, I can propose the following:

1. According to WC2 style:
  • Watch Tower: just four bare spikes – white and shiny, to be distinctive
  • Guard Tower: four spikes with prominent red stripes
  • Cannon Tower: four bare white spikes + four noticeable open team-colored gun ports

2. You can also experiment a bit with the size, shape, or color of the spikes, or maybe their number, but personally, I wouldn’t go that way. Also, if the gun ports (or whatever these windows are) appeared more distinctively, like in WC2, it would be a great addition to differentiate them as follows:
  • Watch Tower: simple plain holes
  • Guard Tower: frequent small loopholes (with thin red stripes, they create a perfect sense of high-level detail on the guard tower)
  • Cannon Tower: large ports again, like in the watch tower, with massive shutters – this way the tower looks, you know, massive :gg:

3. You could also add a small fence or whatever it is on WC2 tower models, and apply the aforementioned ideas (such as adding stripes, etc.) to it, to make the differences between tiers even clearer.

Maybe some of these ideas could prove useful.

I suggest non team-coloured roof (beige color), fewer and thicker tusks under the roof (you have 6 tusks but in the original one have 4 tusks), adding a ladder and spikes (one of the spike has stucked skull). You should also remove wooden parts between the tower legs. Overall good tower model but with these suggestions it will look more like WC2 tower. Here is a reference for you.

If in case you want to go crazy with clan banners, I have this resource I salvaged from the BETA MPQ.
These are the banners that were found on those really old Alpha and BETA screenshots.
They are not team colored, but they will sure look noice.
Hmmmm, those are really cool :D I need some specific advice though which are appropriate to WC1 lore and which are appropriate to WC2 lore?

I could add some variations with the only difference being the banner :P

Jiok has a thing where he manages to TC parts of a skin that aren't meant for TC, such as his Bleeding Hollow Grunt. You may have to customize the skin itself so the banners appear Gray in color, but I can do that for you if you want; or if you want I could make those TC.

For Magos, the first material layer will be Buildings\Orc\Warmill\LumberHut.blp. Make it TwoSided.

The second material layer uses a Replaceable ID 1 skin. It is Unshaded, TwoSided, and the Filter Mode should be selected as Modulate.
