without a skin:
import your model using import manager to your map, save the map, open object editor and change your unit to that model

with a skin:
import both model and skin using import manager to your map (be cautious of the skin's path, if it has a wrong path, your model won't appear), save the map, open object editor and change your unit to that model

this is my method, and it's work perfectly fine to me unless the resources are corrupted

If the problem you are referring to is the one where a green, checkered box shows in place of a model that you supposedly downloaded, and a prompt opens stating "could not load X.mdx" etcetera, then the solution is:

1.) Save your map.
2.) Close the WarCraft Editor.
3.) Open the WarCraft Editor.
4.) Open your map.

By doing this, you are restarting the WarCraft editor, therefore refreshing its database. I don't think the importing of models can operate in real time, so it shows the green box instead of the model you have downloaded.

If it still does not work, then your problem lies with the importing path. To solve this, make sure you remove the "war3mapimported\" (shown under the "Full Path" tab in the Import Manager). This method only applies to mdx's and certain Skin Textures.

Okay, so I take it that you are already aware of how the "war3mapimported\" works. So, for the model:

Banshee Queen
1.) Import SylvanasWindrunnerTheBansheeQueen3_Portrait.mdx, remove the war3mapimported\ from the Full Path tab.
2.) Import SylvanasWindrunnerTheBansheeQueen3.mdx, remove the """
3.) Import DarkSylvanas_by67chrome.blp, remove the """

Hero Dark Kael
1.) Import DarkKael_Portrait .mdx, remove the war3mapimported\ from the Full Path tab.
2.) Import DarkKael.mdx, remove the """
3.) Import DarkKael.blp, clear the Full Path tab, then type "Textures\DarkKael.blp"

The Lich King
1.) Import LichKing2_Portrait.mdx, remove the war3imported\ from the Full Path tab.
2.) Import LichKing2.mdx, remove the """
3.) Import LichKing.blp, remove the """
4.) Import FrostmourneNew.blp, remove the """
5.) Import HelmofDom.blp, remove the """

After importing, restart the WarCraft editor like how I have said before. Your problem was the skin/textures. I hope this helps you make the hero models work.
