latly people have been asking for a way to unprotect maps wich is realy getting annoying people either learn from what topics have beeen locked or read the rules

Its because of people like you that map protection exists in the first place.

this is the answer to you people VGSatomi knows what his talking about so why dont you people do as i say and learn from others mistakes or read the rules :!:

besides what the hell is the point of map theft anyway just proves your noobyness in map making

My advice: get your own ideas, orginality, make a new map not steal someone eles map OR
why don't you just check the author on the map section then contact them

I'm no fan of map protection myself, seeing that it has often protected obscenety and maps that were stolen from others (a.k.a. LoaP) however I've also seen exceptions (Heroes & Empires) anyways, don't the rules tell you how to unprotect maps!?
I must agree mostly, why ask if it would be simpler for all parties just to go to the FAQ?
Note: given unprotected versions, I probably wouldn't even post my alterations (well, maybe LoaP or RLFM, just to give people a clean version) but I wouldn't even consider doing so without explicitly stating who I got it from, and asking their permission (should they be availible beforehand) anyone who doesn't is a downright retard.
But why not post an unprotected version if it get's really popular and people know the real author? The retards who know more about unprotecting than map editing will ultimately get it anyways, Metooism (tm) can probably get to just about any map, protected or otherwise...

VG is right.
Samples:
1)Protecting of the maps needed for hiding save\load codes from all players
2)Protection needed for stopping stealing "system triggers" and using them without giving any credits.
3)Protection needed VS noobs, that add cheating codes into the game
4)Protection needed VS those who wanna create a new map at the base of an old one... (Meat and Anti-meat as a sample)
5)Protection also may get the size of a map smaller
6)Protection could be broken by any hacker\programmer\pro user\user with mathimatical logic.
7)Protection is really needed, but could be broken.
(Sample:i hack EQ2 for save codes...but when i saw those triggers i wanna to kill that author who did it.. so bad triggers i saw only at russian maps by nooby authors :\

What about those map makers with good ideas that just want to learn? I realise that map protection is a necessity to keep B.Net clean but think about it for a minute. Some people just want to see what makes their favourite game tick.

first before this discussion gets started people need to be mindful of what they say in a thread like this to prevent flame wars because i would enjoy to discuss peoples opnion's on map protection without wars.

Personally i think map protection is good because i dont want people to open my map and make versions with their name as author and have people forget the original author. Also i dont want people to f*** it up with imbalances and make their "SUPER NINJA VERSION" or "DBZ VERSION!!!!!!!1111!!ONE!!!!" The best way to protect is to allow people to contact you asking for unprot version or if you decide to quit wc3 or leave then release and unprot ver.

"Protection" can be "broken" without mathimatical knowledge aswell. And yes, a lot of protected maps are funny to look at, since their code often utterly sucks and their authors thinks that it'll never be seen.

When I first started releasing my maps I didnt really care about if people could take a look at the triggers and leran from that, but what did it get me? I got 3 of 4 maps stolen with no credit given at all, and those 3 maps was not even super "pro" maps with genius stuff in it. People will steal anything they can get their hands on, even the shittiest map will be stolen if unprotected.

Map protection is good else you get 10000 the same maps only with cheats that the thief knows so he can win his maps... And if I want a trigger from a map I mostly just ask it here or try to figure it out myself.

I'm always against protecting. Well, people keep saying that people will make edited versions, but really, unless your map is very popular, why would they bother? And triggers, half the time people protect maps that are very simple, the perfect map to learn from. The small amount of knowledge I have of triggers came from examing other people's maps, and I see nothing wrong with that.

Actually, that's how i learned how to edit myself too, i hijacked another map, and continued constructing it, adding new things, figuring out the old triggers, perfecting them, changing things around, adding.. etc.
Eventually, only about 5% of the original triggers were left, and the terrain was totally transformed. That map never really got through on the internet anyway, as it was more for myself, to learn.
Now the map is screwed, although the triggers are ok, the many patches have screwed things up, rendering me unable to fix all the harm done, and it's not worth it anyway, the map was never totally my own.

Now in turn i've got a map that is reasonably populair, but it is "protected" as a sideeffect of an optimiser. I don't mind the protection, as i don't want people to take my map and change it around. I do in every way i can try to allow people to learn from my map, so there's a note in it when opened in WE with my email, so they can send questions. I've had quite some already, and helped all those people who wanted to know something. Map protection isn't all bad, it depends on how you use it, and compensate.

There was no need of posting something like this, we all know that map protection is bad. Good in a way, but bad in another.... the most acceptable way of protection I've found is hiding the units and all the stuff in the editor except the triggers (didn't figure out how to do that yet) but I loved that way of protection. This way people can't edit the map, but look at the triggers and learn from them. All the rest of protections = crap. Blizzard should do something about this.

The most likely reason they don't protect it Rui's way is probably for a similiar reason as the stealers, it's easy, don't get me wrong however, I am not meaning all, or criticizing, just observing and guessing, also, it could be that they consider the triggers most significent, or haven't even thought of this idea (I didn't) as the thieves probably never thought of making their own map, though I hate to compare myself to them.

for those peeps how are genuine map makers and want to know learn the triggers and make the maps themselves, this wonderful forum is the best place to start. most FAQ are posted about 10 - 20 times so if you spend half and hour reading going through all the posts you'll probably find what your looking for. or you can spend about 3 hours tring to find way of unprotecting peoples maps stumble on a porn site and lose all intrest in what you were gonna do in the first place. Plus i can guarantee nearly all maps makers who post there maps and those maps are protected will be quite happy to tell you how they did it.
Protection rules. (VG n Darky are gonna whoop my ass for saying that. :D )
