Hey guys, a big big fan of Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne

I did not know that War 3 was moddable until I googled "Warcraft 3 mods"

I would love to meet the guys/gals on here and would like to request help
I am having some trouble navigating in this site

Compared to Nexus, it is abit messy imho
So I dk where to download mods and such

I do see | Maps | Skins | Icons | Models | Spells | Tools | Jass | Packs | Hosted Projects

Are they categories of things that I can download for free from this website?

plus, the tutorial page is full of topics and got me abit dizzy :p :ogre_frown:

please correct me if i am wrong

Skins - add new skins for units in the game, replaces the normal ones? like new textures?

Icons - replaces the vanilla icons?

Models - no idea

Spells - dont know what this will do exactly, new spells added to the game?

And help is appreciated
Thanks in advance!

Maps = To Download a Map
Skins = To Download a Skin which later you import it to your own map and replace the original skin
Models = To Download a Model which is a new unit inside the game (like Shadow Infernal for example, in original Warcraft there is no such a thing. But if you download it here and use it, Warcraft will has it)
Spells = To Download a Spell which later is imported to your map, so yes. New Spells.
Tools = To Download a Tool for modding function

Everything that used for modding is 100% free
and use "Introduction" section instead of Off-Topic

The Tutorial is listed there, if you just look at them of course you'll get dizzy
you should find whatever you need, read it, practice with it..

There isn't a tab for Warcraft 3 mods since there are so very few of them, which is because altered melees don't have as big of a community supporting them as other genres, and also because mods are difficult to make compared to a map.
I'll link to as many mods as I can:

Dawn Of Chaos, an amazingly well made Warcraft I conversion with lots of high quality custom resources, made by the Realm Design team: http://forum.samods.org/index.php?board=28.0/

Four Empires, a decent mod that isn't too much of a change to the Warcraft III gameplay but still is nice, created by Spellbound: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/map-development-202/mod-four-empires-238141/

Heaven's Fall, an incredibly cool mod that has seven races (six of which are playable) and tons of custom resources made by Retera: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/map-development-202/heavens-fall-melee-gameplay-mod-221137/

Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation, a very cool mod that recreates Warcraft II very well, project leader is Strategy Master: http://www.wc3c.net/showthread.php?t=94255l

Warcraft 2.5, a decent mod that blends Warcraft II with Warcraft III into a fast paced and fun game, created by TaShadan: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/map-development-202/warcraft-2-5-a-203503/

The Tales Of Raviganion, a mod I have not played but looks very cool: http://www.moddb.com/mods/the-tales-of-raviganion

Warcraft Ressurection, a graphic overhaul mod that improves Warcraft III's look, created by CaptainIstvan: http://www.moddb.com/mods/balla-istvan

Warcraft III: Nirvana, A very cool mod with two new, awesome races in addition to the four originals, created by dumpling: http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iii-nirvana

Warcraft IV: Red Horizons, A nice mod that adds a good deal of depth to regular Warcraft III gameplay, created by RadeonMaster: http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iv-red-horizons1

Warcraft IV - The Battle for Eternity, An okay graphic overhaul mod, made by Patrick-SK: http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iv

@Seedin , there are very few War 3 : Frozen Throne mods?
Ouch, that sucks because I only have that and War 3, NOT War 2 or War 1

I dont think I will be able to play Dawn Of Chaos cos I dont have War 1

I also checked out Four Empires but I do not think it is complete yet so I ll wait
But the screenshots look damn impressive, wow, gotta respect the guy who made this + the ppl who helped him

Heaven's Fall, again wow - gonna download this after I learn more about it. Interesting (for me)

Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation - dont have War 2 so :(

Warcraft 2.5 - does it also work with War 3 : FT?

@neo sluf , no I do not make maps
Are models resources for map makers?

Ouch, then it is not for me i guess
I just want to download and play mods :)

All of the mods work on Warcraft 3 TFT.
The Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation and Dawn Of Chaos mods are CONVESIONS.
They're in Warcraft III, but they LOOK like Warcraft I/II. You don't need Warcraft II to play the Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation mod. You need Warcraft III TFT.
Four Empires might not be final-complete, but it's definitely playable. It's quite cool, although you might have some trouble starting an actual game due to the fact it has no AI. (You'll have to play on Battle.Net, I'm not sure if Garena works or not for mods). Actually, I'm not sure if any of those mods I mentioned could be considered complete, but they're sure as hell playable and fun.
Also, remember to read the readmes included with the mods (if they have one). They're very helpful when installing the mod.

And to answer your question, yes, there are very few Warcraft III mods. They're (generally) much more difficult to create than just a regular map and not many people know how to make mods. If you want help in creating a mod, I suggest you ask Retera. I believe he helped both TaShadan and Spellbound in creating their mods.

Thank you, I will just look for mods/maps with AI bec I dont want to play alone and I cant play on Battle Net cos I dont have a good internet con

It's alrite tho, I will just download finished mods with AI. I have downloaded one actually

http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iv
(first download regarding War 3 modding)
Not really a mod but it replaces most textures/pics in the game
Looks alot fresher and cooler :D
very easy to install too :D

will be downloading more really :)

@Rehiko, i am gonna check that website out
it looks like a popular mod :)

Now i would like to learn more about Icons and Packs
Icons. . . . replaces vanilla icons rite? but do we have an icon pack?
a whole package so that i dont have to download one icon and install it, it would take a long time

I understand that, Statharas
I just want to replace the icons, the attack icon, move icon and such

Just like the mod I mentioned did (with textures/pics)

I am currently not looking for mods/maps that only influence their own maps

Power Of Corruption is not what you would consider a Warcraft III mod. It is a series of altered melee maps. You can play only those three maps with Moyack's Naga and Demon races. If something is a mod, then you can start the mod and play any unmodified (it can't have triggers other than the melee map initialization) melee map. This means all of Blizzard's melee maps can be played with the mod and whatever other melee maps you download. Lastly, because of the fact that the maps can't have triggers, you can't play any (or most) custom maps because they have triggers. You could not play Power Of Corruption using a mod.
Dawn Of Chaos is a special mod and needs maps specially made for it to work properly, and there are only two maps for it, one for the campaign and one for multiplayer.
Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation also needs maps specially made for it. One map is already created for you, but you can make more using their editor.
Since you say that you don't use Battle.Net, I highly recommend Heaven's Fall. It has decent AI and it's really fun.

Rheiko, if you don't know what mod means, just download one of those mods I mentioned and play it.

:(

I get confused when looking for info, maybe i am not used to the layout yet

Thanks a ton seedin
I now know the difference betw altered maps and mods :)

So far I havent downloaded any mods or altered maps

I only have this downloaded
http://www.moddb.com/mods/warcraft-iv

It is supposed to give War 3 FT a new look and so far, I am enjoying it

I am gonna download Heaven's Fall but correct me if I am wrong, the file size is only
HeavensFallLauncher.zip (1.16 MB, 160 views)

It is internet-based? What does that mean?

[ according to this http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/map-development-202/heavens-fall-melee-gameplay-mod-221137/ ]

Are these also available on Moddb ?

Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation
Warcraft 2.5,
The Tales Of Raviganion

I am still new here and havent spent so much time on here so cant navigate really well

Actually, I'm pretty sure Battle.Net doesn't like the MultiRace Template Heaven's Fall uses and doesn't allow for online play (via Battle.Net). So Heaven's Fall is singleplayer (although I think you can play via LAN). To install it, just run the program.
You would actually consider Warcraft IV a mod since it modifies the data within Warcraft III. It doesn't provide anything new to it (besides the imported models/skins/icons), but yes, it is a mod. Damn big filesize though. (Also, I'd like to thank you, I found out about Warcraft: Nirvana because of you.)
Tales Of Raviganion and Warcraft 2.5 are availible on ModDB. Warcraft 2: 2nd Generation is not.

By the way, if you want to import icons, there are some tutorials showing you how to import icons on the site. I'll let you find them yourself, it will be a good lesson for you.
If you're talking about creating MPQ files with the icons in them, then I'm not sure.
