You got to remove it from the model by using the model programs. No other ways I don't think. I am not skilled in modeling so I wouldn't know, but I'm pretty sure.
And you will need to use some kind of model editor program (there is several free version if thats the problem, like vextorian). Else, if your lucky, you can alpha it out, but I doubt thats a solution for ye and it would only apply to a very limited amount of weapons.
So go with a model editor (and one where it doesn't remove the animations when you import it )
A side note; actually you can also do it using a text editor like notepad, but thats advanced stuff... So I won't go much in detail about that. Sufficiant to know that you can and that it mainly consist of removing the line that says to "create" the weapon Mesh
Btw: Hive tools is also always a good place to look for something that can make it simpler, and there is several users addicted to remove weapons on request.
