Here it is:

54644787.jpg

With a waterfall in top of a mountain, and a custom river coming down, towards a lake.
I used a lot of UTM, and read a lot of tutorials, taking a bit from here and there.
Despite all this, I'm extremely frustrated. I could not add any fog, when I did, a giant white box appeared, no matter how much I changed the settings, the box didn't change at all.
I wanted to add a unit with a victory animation, but if I triggered it, I had to be in the game, and the camera game was waaaaaaay too low.
I wanted to add lighting effects, but I only managed a dense blue fog, completely unrealistic.

If you could help me out here, I would really appreciate it: some critics, some opinions, and a little help with above problems

Well start by trying to only use a few trees rather than all the trees in UTM. Then if need be, tint them in the object editor until they have a somewhat uniformity in their coloration.

As for the fog, it's in the toolbar at the top of the editor, Scenario ---> Map Options ---> Tut: http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/general-mapping-tutorials-278/all-about-fog-94771/

These may help as well :

You should always ask yourself before you think yourself done with a terrain:
"Does this look natural?" - If no, you definetly should work on what doesn't look natural.

For your terrain, the trees look very crammed together, and doesn't seem to have breathing space, that and they all seem to be of similare size, I sertainly dont hope you think trees in the woods are all the same size, in other words I'd advice you to spread the trees out more, possibly delete some, and variate the size of the trees better.

Appart from that, there is, as mentioned, the lack of fog. Which I wont say anything more about, as Azurot gave a helping hand there. Though I do want to point out that you should consider having a more "covering" camera angle and add more mountain layers in the background, making them fade out with the fog. "Covering" as in you can see further into the depth of the terrain :)

As a side note, I'd personally like to see the blizzard cliffs gone, they seriously do not look good. The simple way to avoid them is to cover the whole map with deep water, and then use the raise tool to make the land.

Hope that could be of some help.

Hi there, judging from your terrain, i take it as your making a 'Natural Environment' (Correct me if i am wrong)

Here is some suggestion

1) You may want to blend in with adding some critters (Animals) as right now the terrain looks quite unnatural and empty.

2) I would recommend you to use some foilage and overgrowth effect such as mixing different type of flower, grass and mushrooms.

3) You may want to try to stick to one type of rock, right now it looks very very very odd.

and here is a link to making 'Natural Environment' http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/general-mapping-tutorials-278/natural-environments-96825/

I hope it helps, thanks for reading.

Looks ok, but yeah like everyone else said there is some things you can fix.

Put some critters and some woodland creeps in the pic and would be interesting.

For your first terrain its not that bad but here are somethings that might be able to help you a bit.

As i see in your terrain you use a barrens tileset if i were you i would use more village tiles in order to make it look good and to have more tile variation. Also the waterfall in your terrain seems to come out of no where and som of the rocks you places are flooting lower them down with ctrl + page down (the keys on your keyboard) you also might wana add som critters in your terrain like a stag and use the birds doodad. I hoped this helps a bit good luck :)

you think like this -.- correct me if i am wrong
"if the camera can't see the other places, why the heck must i work on that area ? they can't even see it anyways"
thats the problem of some terrainers
btw you left alot of place plain, try to add more "natural enviroment"
and get a fog and do mix and match
