Start out with the basics. It's too flat, try to vary up the ground levels and the tile variation. Also, instead of putting your map effect to rays of sunlight make several small regions spread out and set their environment effect to the sunlight rays. Also, try going to map options and trying different, thicker fogs. It could be better, but it's not a bad start, either.

Tile variation. First thing (other than flat) that I noticed. I also dislike the trees, although that's sort of personal preference.

Your terrain needs more doodads, it's nekid. Tile and height variation are also needed. And please, for the love of Christ, get rid of those rays of light, they are really cramping up the picture. Try to take pictures that don't show the edge of the map like that, it looks very unrealistic. The infinite blue yonder isn't attractive.

Looks nice but you need undergrowth our your crew of pirates will commit a mutiny.
