I've never opened WE before, today i decided to try it, you know "discover" it and see what's in it.
I made a simple road and i think it's pretty good for a first time, here are the results:

Not bad but the path bumps look as sharp as knife edges. Smooth it down a bit otherwise your gonna hurt some. :)

thanx for your point but when i created this map i felt that it was too flat so i used the noise tool the the smooth tool, anyway that was 15 minutes work so it isn't the best ;)

I actually like it, but you can see where you just stopped working and stuff, and don't put too much lanters.

lol .. i wished i could do this when i was first going to terrain .. you have the terraining spirit i think ;)

But the only thing is that its just a .. eh .. road . .. going straight on with lanterns and such thats just a little boring to make 4 screenies of .. but anyways this looks 5/5 for a FIRST time ..

A great start definetly. Props to knowing the fog tool on your first time with world edit, i didnt get it till like a few weeks after.

Bad: Unphotogenic blizz trees.
Large lightposts.
Little road variation.

Try looking up other tree models on hive or wc3sear.ch to find better trees to take pictures of at angles. Also work with the doodad scaling to produce more realistic objects and proportionz, thats one of the main things that stands out in your picture. Also, try making something happening on the road, like a crossroads or a bridge to add some variation..

All in all a very nice first terrain. Practice makes perfect

thats pretty good, but with the laterns...eh...too many and put some foilage around them, also put some ruined pathement (yes i probaly spelt it wrong!) to make a worn road, well its what i do,

other than that its great! just laterns and trees..i hate blizz's trees...

War3 Graphic's Designer: "Dear god we have to get this game out in like 2 days! what are we going to make trees look like darnit!?"
Sammy:"OOOO"
War3 GD:"SAM?"
Sammy:"Cones :)"
War3 GD:"everyone agree? no? toobad get those cones on those sticks this instant!"

ooooooooooo i guess everybody hates blizzard's trees, and i do- they're just silly
anyway, i'll try to work out your suggestions and i'll try to do some terrain (another road i guess) but using much more doodads and trying a 64x64 map this time
i'm not busy right now so i'll try and post some screenies later

Wow, your first time with the WE terraining? Amazing... for a beginner I think this is a 8.0/10.0, what you can fix is make the road less hilly and less pointy. Raise some hills in the back-ground, but not too high. Maybe put a building or two in the forest as well. Excellent job though YaDonno. If this is truely your first time and doing this much, I expect to see some really good terrains by you in the future. :)
GOOD: Terrain isn't flat; w00t! Nice fog; Sky goes well with it. Good props doodad placement, not too much, not too little. Forest looks pretty good too, even though it's WC3 trees :p
BAD: Tile variation; need more of it! You should add light rain or snow or something to really go well with the fog or sky. Something tells me that you actually didn't add enough shrubs! Although... I do love shrubs...
8.0/10.0 Very Good.

ok, these are some good suggestions, but if you didn't notice i used heavy rain as the weather effect.
i guess i'll work on them in my next map, if you didn't notice i used heavy rain as the weather effect which i already have its idea. it goes like this: a river, a road, an anchor, and a house on a cliff. i hope it'll be as good as this one ;)

by the way i'll go deep with this one cause i'll try to import a few plants, and if i'm successful that would be just nice

yeah, i'm doing the second map right now and it's not gonna be sharp
it's 92x92 this time so it'll need a lil' more screenies, and i've fucked the editor up this time so no more "cones on sticks".
it took me a lot of time to get the models in the map, and now i'm just polishing it up and adding some doodads, i guess it will be stupid because not every mistake is covered by trees this time ;)

Update

Ok, done with my second map, it took me much more time than the first.
12 screenies, cuz it doesn't have a single feature- i had to take more screenies  :witch_doc_sad:
credits for the models go to:
Nasrudin
xXm0rpH3usXx
reinless

their models are great  :infl_thumbs_up:
i also looked at the cliff tutorial, great work, Gitlich (from wc3campaigns)
importing models and making doodads with variables was goddamn difficult and it took me at least 1.5 hrs.
the map's here as well

Omg man, that is so much improvement. Not just because of the custom models either. You added so many more things to improve the environment and mood of the picture. I love the first picture, its a major step from your first terrain.

A few things of note however:
Cattails usually grow in shallow water, not on dry ground :)
The ground texture of the buildings can be removed in the object editor in case you're looking for that :) might improve that one picture.
You can add more tiles to your tileset in the advanced menu, in case you were trying for a stone road, however it still looks great if you werent.

Overall, i cant wait to see more of your work, + rep if i could

Muuuuuuuuch better my friend, very nice. But I have noticed a couple naughty things you put into the terrain.
1)The sky doesn't look like the type of sky you'd see when rain is falling.
2)The little path in the water you made with rocks and shrubs and all that seems cluttered.
3)Maybe add some birds flying around.
Very good overall... 9.5/10.0

Oh, and here's your +rep for great first time work and the forests look really cool :D

Don't be so lazy, you learn more if you do it yourself. :p

Some general stuff:
-The fog should fit to the sky. Dark grey and light blue doesn't work well together.
-Smooth transitions for natural terrain.
You did a good job on the tile part, but you should do the same when placing doodads. Take the edge of your forest for example, the last screenshot shows that very well. You mass placed shrubs and all that stuff under the trees and the area besides the lake/sea is completely barren.
The same thing counts for the trees.
-More tree variation. You could use more different tree models, increase the size difference of the trees and/or tint them.
-The buildings are too small.
-I wouldn't place plants on stone tiles since I think they can't grow there, but that's just my opinion.

Good job, looks really good for a beginner!
Just don't use Lordaeron Summer anymore, this red dirt hurts my eyes. :p
