I just got my hands on a Surface pro 4, and it's pretty awesome so far! Can highly recommend if you were thinking of picking one up - and I'd be happy to answer any questions you have about it. As an aside, this entire post was made using handwriting recognition, and I have the worst writing ever.

Varies depending on the task obviously. Scrolling through an optimized PDF or Edge page will be very smooth. Scrolling through an IE11 page or some badly optimized document with far too large images will probably be a mess. This is always the case.

Since it uses a SSD I would imagine opening programs to be very fast.

I actually went for the M3 model. The only worry I had was that it would be a little underspec'd for what I do, but so far it's holding up awesomely. Scrolling is smooth, I've no issue with program loading - the only thing that's a little troublesome is a program called Mendeley. Mendeley comes somewhat unoptimised for the surface and I find myself using the typecover a bit more than I would like to in it.

Good question! It mostly relates to work: I have three devices, a desktop, laptop and now a surface. My desktop is a workhorse, but I can't take it about with me. My laptop is indestructible, but a little impractical (it's a Thinkpad). I wanted something that would be easily portable, good for taking notes and would let me continue working and programming whenever I felt like it. The heavy lifting will still be done by my desktop and, if I'm local, my laptop, but if I'm going into a meeting or to a conference, or just sat in a coffee shop and want to read some articles, I'll be using my surface.

Take note, Surface 1 and 2 run windows RT which is based on ARM and it's app store is literally a ghost town, so you might want to specify the model in the first post.

3 is pretty great though, I would have gotten it if I haven't bought Asus T100 already.

Well aware of that, but hadn't thought to specify - my bad. I've added it to the OP, and it's a Pro 4 I got. ^_^
