Marauder

A lot of people have been asking me to upload the rest of my SC2 models lately, so i decided to finish up the last touches to my marauder and release it here.

The model is scratch modeled and animated in 3ds max 5.1, textures were made using photoshop. Portrait, aswell as a standard set of attachment points, are present.

Model Size: 162 kb
Texture Size: 35 kb
Particle Texture Size: 80 kb

I should notice though, that i am using a particle sprite from SC2 for this - simply because it is awesome and i couldn't possibly achieve the same effect without it - if that is not OK with you i can try mailing Blizzard and see if we are allowed to use them for warcraft, but i have very hard to believe that they would disagree with it. They certainly give quite a facelift to the old engine and i hope to see more people using them for their effects.

Works ingame, looks fantastic, useful model, definitely approved

I mean, a real marauder! And despite the older WC3 engine graphics, it still looks amaisingly smooth. It's definetly worth director's Cut

oh, you know, I think the firebat model we currently have won't really fit with it, but whatever...

My only complaint is that it has only one attack animation.

I was thinking of adding a second, but the missiles in warcraft spawn from a coordinate, and that means you can only have it come out of the one side or the other (and that wouldn't make sense, firing from the one arm but having the missile come out of the other!!).
 
You should create a spell animation where he uses both arms and fires with them. (Basically the only flaw with this model is lack of animations)

That is called saving polygons. Most moderators see that as a plus.

By removing polygons that are facing the ground or are otherwise not visible you save both file and rendering space.

But yeah, i would agree that i only gave it the very most neccesary animations, i am not as dedicated to my starcraft projects as i used to be, now that i am doing WiF and all.

Just checked out his animations if the World Editor, they look good, but his Death - 2 is a little too gory for my tastes, but maybe that’s just me.

I know the Marauder is Starcraft II isn't a caster but he could still use at least a spell or spell throw animation, since most people like to make hero versions of them.

EDIT:

You could make a spell animation using the other arm, that way a mapmaker could trigger the firing of the projectile from the correct arm. (using triggered projectiles, rather than normal firing).

That’s a great idea, it make great use of his other arm, especially since you could set it as a spell slam animation so he would use it for a critical strike or bash attacks.

Overall 4/5 easy, with some + rep for a job well done can't wait to see what else you got in the pipe. :grin:
