Map file size

No as that is limited by the map archive file structure and is limited to 4GB. Only WoW and later version MPQs support archives above 4 GB. Getting past this limit is impossible.

What?

The MPQ format has undergone several revisions after its initial release, and those are classified by MPQ "versions". The first version, Format 1, was used in all Blizzard games until Burning Crusade was released (2007). This file structure was limited to 4 GB of data storage. Since all Warcraft 3 maps are actually MPQ's, they share that "theoretical" storage limit (the reason why I put theoretical in quotes is that it is unclear whether Warcraft 3 will even load a game with such a high file size. But it is true: that is the maximum file size for a map :p).

The other versions, format 2 (Burning Crusade until Cataclysm beta), and format 3 and 4 (Cataclysm beta or newer) support more than 4 GB. The 4 GB limit is kind of unneeded knowledge for mapping purposes, but it is interesting food for thought.

EDIT: Cleaned thread.

Check my signature for the official way to remove the file size of maps on official Battle.Net servers without any edited/hacked files and/or cheats.

You just need to allow local files in the registry and just get people to download the required files for your map and put it in their main Warcraft directory as well you'll need to make sure the path for every custom file is foldername\file.extension
