Mana Degeneration/consumption

Is there any way to add an ability that adds a mana consumption to a unit without that the unit does anything/ not bound to units actions ?

Example: 'Mineralz': In Mineralz, I may be wrong, a latern consumes mana without doing anything ( just for existing). How can you simulate the consumption?

To give concrete example: In my current project all Undead-type units will lose mana. Mana is the way they live, so no mana= they become the bones they were before = unit dies

How can I create such an ability ( I would like to NOT use a trigger) or in case it isn't possible without triggers, what would be the best way to trigger the mana degernation ?

Just set the unit's mana regeneration to negative? Like the Undead Destroyer. Shift-click the mana regeneration box and add a negative number.

OH, that was easy...
but, do I have to allow negative real-values then ? Or is that something else ?

Thank you, I was aware of this opportunity before, I just didn't think it was possible with negative things like Regeneration, but to choose high numbers.

So, I can just add a negative value and fine, nothing you have to be aware of ? ( no answer = there is nothing to be aware of)
