LOTR Risk Strongholds: Third Age

Gameplay and Features:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Third Age is a Risk with a dynamic spawn system that changes based on whether or not you currently own the relevant greater region. The broken isle of NĂºmenor in-game contains books which explain it in more detail.

Depth:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Third Age is similar to Middle Earth Risk, but adds the eponymous strongholds, creep-controlled forts that players can capture.

Strongholds provide:
- Gold income. Gold is used for all units.
- Access to heroes that you generally cannot buy elsewhere.
- Renown income (they are the sole source of this, aside from the basic renown income each player receives). Renown is used for more powerful units, repair units and heroes.

The goal of the map is to take over all of Middle-earth. Only one player can be victorious!


Author Notes:

This map was originally created by qpPyKT under the name LOTR Risk StrongHold (1.0 - 2.1). I asked him for permission to work on the defunct map, which he graciously gave.

I have been working on this map for five years, from 2014 until 2019 (from LOTR Risk Strongholds 3.0 until this version).

The map is unprotected and I give people permission to learn from it and edit as they wish. I do ask, however, that those who edit this map to create their own version(s) please credit me as the editor and qpPyKT as the original creator. Same as if we'd made a model, icon or skin for you.

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Third Age (12P) makes the following changes from LOTR Risk Strongholds: Complete (24P):

- The elevations in Fangorn Forest are less chaotic.

- Entlings are now named Entings, as per Tolkien's canon.

It's an enhancement, I guess. I've already approved one such map not too long ago and it was better on aesthetics. However, there are some differences. Approved.

    Really great map, one of the most commonly hosted maps on Warcraft 3 currently and certainly one for the books! Thank you for all the wonderful work you've put into this map over the years. It has established itself as one of Warcraft 3's highlights of competition.

    It's been a long journey. Made lots of friends along the way, had a lot of fun.

    Hopefully this will get the map out there for those who want a dedicated link.

    Edit: The map screenshots are out of date, but I'm too sentimental to replace them. Also lazy.

    This version should be fully compatible with the current Warcraft III, The Frozen Throne patch.

    I've tested it in single player and online (albeit with computers, both times, not players).

    If you're having an issue playing it, can you describe the error, or provide a screenshot of what's going on?
