LOTR Risk Strongholds: Legacy (Q)

Submitted by Sinandur
This bundle is marked as approved. It works and satisfies the submission rules.
LOTR Risk Strongholds: Legacy (Q)

Gameplay and Features:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Legacy (Q) is a Risk with a dynamic spawn system that changes based on whether or not you currently own the relevant greater region. The broken isle of Númenor in-game contains books which explain it in more detail.

Depth:

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Legacy (Q) is similar to Middle Earth Risk, but adds the eponymous strongholds, creep-controlled forts that players can capture.

Strongholds provide:
- Gold income. Gold is used for all units.
- Renown income (they are the sole source of this, aside from the basic renown income each player receives). Renown is used for more powerful units, repair units and heroes.
- Access to heroes that you generally cannot buy elsewhere.

The goal of the map is to take over all of Middle-earth. Only one player can be victorious!

Author Notes:

This map was originally created by qpPyKT under the name LOTR Risk StrongHold (1.0 - 2.1). I asked him for permission to work on the defunct map, which he graciously gave.

I have been working on this map for four years, from 2014 until 2018 (from LOTR Risk Strongholds 3.0 until 17.0, which concludes with this version, Legacy [Q]).

The map is unprotected and I give people permission to learn from it and edit as they wish. I do ask, however, that those who edit this map to create their own version(s) please credit me as the editor and qpPyKT as the original creator. Same as if we'd made a model, icon or skin for you.

Important Note: This update fixes the damaged Dwarven Clan Lord's model and the colour trigger for Grey Company Rangers. It also makes other improvements, as listed below.

Change Log

LOTR Risk Strongholds: Legacy (Q) makes the following changes:

- Minor fixes.
- Balance changes.
- Miscellaneous changes.
- Trolls have been buffed.
- The Clan Lord is now fixed.

- Some rosters have been expanded.
- A leaderboard timer has been added.
- Missing unit limit triggers have been added.
- The tints of the Elven walls are more subdued.
- Walls have been added to the Elvenking’s Halls.

- A destructible bridge has been added to Rivendell.
- Halbarad’s Herbs is now a health regeneration aura.
- The Grey Havens (Mithlond) region has been changed.
- The towers in the Paths of the Dead have been modified.
- The Iron Halls (Grey Mountains) region has been changed.

- The shipyards of Middle-earth have been further diversified.
- The Forochel (Forodwaith) region has been changed slightly.
- Lossoth Archers now have a unique model and a custom icon.
- The Shire now spawns Took Archers instead of Hobbit Smiths.
- Erech now has its own Circle of Power and a tower to defend it.

- The four races have customised UIs, as illustrated in the screenshots.
- Isengard now spawns Uruk-hai Captains instead of Uruk-hai Berserkers.
- Ñoldorin Archers (Rivendell-only) are now more powerful and expensive.
- The North (Greater Region) now spawns Snow-trolls instead of Hill-trolls.
- Esgaroth and the Grey Havens have been turned into city/shipyard hybrids.

- Cave-trolls have been customised and now have a new ability: Throw Boulder.
- Lothlórien now spawns Galadhrim Swordsmen instead of Galadhrim Spearmen.
- Rohan and the Eastemnet now have palisades similar to those of Mercenary Camps.
- Arches have been added to make some of the bridges across Middle-earth more ornate.
- There is now a passable bridge from the Orc Camp in Morgul Vale to South Mordor in Núrn.

- The Greater Region spawns are all marked by Circles of Power that appear on the minimap.
- The Angrenost (Greater Region) now spawns Chieftains of Dunland instead of Uruk-hai Captains.
- Mammoths have been changed to the more powerful Mammoth Riders. They are limited to 2 per player.
- Mercenaries have become Dwarven Mercenaries. They have more health and armour, but move more slowly.
- Unique Circles of Power added for each player so that they can refer to them if unsure which colour they are.

- The leaderboard has been replaced with a multiboard; players can now check both their gold and renown incomes.
- Five new units added: Chieftains of Dunland, Dúnedain Lieutenants, Half-orcs, Rhudaurian Reavers and Snow-trolls.
- The Ferocity aura of Beornings has been buffed from 8% to 10%, but the armour of all Bear Form Beornings has been reduced by 4.
- The colour trigger for Grey Company and Mounted Grey Company Rangers has been amended to account for the new colour system.
- Halbarad is now on foot. This is partly for the sake of balance and partly so that his auras and spell effect (Fated, his Divine Shield) are visible.

- The recent patches have allowed for the restoration of individual Circles of Power to Moria and the Elvenking’s Halls instead of having one circle that gives control of it all.

It's an enhancement, I guess. I've already approved one such map not too long ago and it was better on aesthetics. However, there are some differences. Approved.

Really great map, one of the most commonly hosted maps on Warcraft 3 currently and certainly one for the books! Thank you for all the wonderful work you've put into this map over the years. It has established itself as one of Warcraft 3's highlights of competition.

    Ah, thanks man.

It's been a long journey. Made lots of friends along the way, had a lot of fun.

Hopefully this will get the map out there for those who want a dedicated link.

Thanks for the swift review, deepstrasz.

Great to have the map up and approved.

I rather like some of the aesthetic utility changes and such of Darkly's map.

Things have diverged tremendously since the 9.30 / 10.00 split. Think that was back in 2016. Feels like an age.
