Item Ownership

I have an item ownership system, that if someone picks up an item that doesn't belong to them it drops it back where it was.

But I'm have a problem where if you hand an item you own to a another player it drops the item back where you found it, not where it was (on your char)

Is there a way of checking if an item came from a hero to a hero?
