Is there a fix for World Editor blanking imported assets?

I’ll import a couple of icons, maybe a few models, no worries. Game runs, models show in test map.

Then I’ll import something else the next day, same as above (that is to say no issues).

Then I’ll realise all my icons have vanished and everything in the import manager has a file size of 0. What’s up with this – am I doing something wrong or is this a consequence of negativity in the dojo. Someone pinched the wrong milk from the fridge or something idk.

It usually fixes itself by closing and reopening the editor doesn't it?
Unfortunately not.

Suffice to say it's not a vibe. Kinda a viben't.

If you test the map, does anything using these asset show up or are they invisible?
Invisible. I can re-import them to get them to work but otherwise everything's gone.

Never press the "Test Map" button without having saved the map first.
Otherwise it will keep happening - has been like that for decades.
Has this been an issue for decades? I've never experienced imported assets erasing themselves in my years of fooling about with WE.

Found a few (unresolved) threads on the Blizzard forums asking the same thing.

Nice, nice.

To confirm is it the act of running a test map that blanks imported assets, or something else that does it?

Or can it just happen at random, and is my future experience with WE going forward checking the asset manager before saving.

saving map as a folder is such a life changer.

this should be WE default behavior. it is crazy how much better the map making process becomes when you work with the .w3m extension ( a folder ) instead of the w3x.

never use w3x. always save as a folder.

bonus: you can just copy and paste assets into the war3mapimported folder, then save the map in WE and the asset editor updates automatically (even auto-removes assets that are no longer in that folder)

Perhaps saving the map as a folder and managing your assets via folders rather than the asset manager could help?

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll give this a crack instead. See if the issue replicates itself managing a folder.
