Is Cleverbot (Stupidbot?) an Unicode-illiterate chatbot?

When chatting (and insulting ) Cleverbot Stupidbot, I will sometimes use Unicode characters (mainly Chinese words) to insult it.

But it confused the shit out of me by pretending to be an Unicode-illiterate chatbot, it does recognize raw pinyin Chinese however. It used to be telling me to stop using Unicode words in the past whenever I used them, but now it doesn't.

Does Cleverbot actually understand Unicode words (including phonetics)?

If it did not understand Unicode it would appear as a bunch of random characters and control commands.

I am guessing it all depends on the interface used. You may find there are several ways to communicate with it using different encoding formats.

It is possible that the certain Unicode set you tried to use is missing from its database while the other one is not. You must remember that Unicode is a pretty extendable character encoding format and that unless meanings are specifically defined for characters they might as well be random binary data.
