Hello hive modelers!

I've started modeling some weeks ago.
I've made some swords, shields and other simple things, from which a beginner
(like me) can learn.

But I also need suggestions and ideas for improvement, because I only
made models, without criticising them from someone, who knows the
pros and cons from modeling.
(I will spare you showing my first or second model, and will start from my
others, where I think that they could be uploaded at hive (in my opinion)).

So maybe can take some time to watch at my models, and to list the things,
which could be better, or which should be changed.

If you need the model, to show it ingame, model editor, or another modeling program,
I can send you it, so you can criticise it better :)

Thanks in advance.

1. Model: Coral Sword Uploaded: YES

'The first one is a easy sword model, with a coral texture (ingame).
Is this model good enough, to stay at the hive model database?
What could I change on the texture, form, size, ... etc.?
I made two different versions: 1. Normal ; 2. With bubble particles.'

attachment.php

  • made the handle smaller
  • better screenshot

2. Model: Titan Sword Uploaded: NO

'The second 'real' model, which can (I think) looks nice.
This should be a sword of some titan, that can be seen by it's size,
but I'm not sure about it's texture. Maybe someone of you can give me
some tips with the texture. Now it looks more mighty, but not like a real
blade.'

attachment.php

  • removed both axeblades
  • changed blade texture
  • changed bottom handle texture, + glow

i think the problem with the second one is that the texture looks quite random. the handle you did well, the hand guard, they have some sort of shape to them as well.

thanks for your comment :p

well I redid the model, removed the two 'axe-blades', changed the blade
texture to the human capmaign sword texture (more metallish).
the handle is still the same, and the bottom part of the handle is now a
crystal, with a blue glow (if I manage to get it to work).

I'll post a screenshot as soon as I get the glow to work.

I think the coral sword needs some flaws.. chips cracks, it looks to perfect and smooth.
maybe a small chunk corroded or twisted... etc. (just needs some texture difference.. looks like a sponge)

Thats my opinion. :p

Prolly using in game textures so I understand the limitations.

EDIT: Oh your bubbles look like smileys :)
