Guys, you all should know that we have a hive chat application, right?
Okay, here's the thing.
I've found out that Ralle could have included things like a sound system, and BBcodes into the chat.

[20-57-46] OffGraphic rapidly clicks Billy the Raccoon.
[20-58-00] Billy the Cat: OffGraphic, no... stop... no
[20-58-07] Billy the Cat explodes
[20-59-43] OffGraphic rapidly clicks GIANT_CRAB.
[21-00-56] GIANT_CRAB: OffGraphic, I TOLD U NOT TO CLICK THE CRAB!!!
[21-01-11] GIANT_CRAB WTFUUUU BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM
[21-02-16] GIANT_CRAB: OffGraphic, http://www.hiveworkshop.com/forums/maps-564/dont-click-crab-166251/
[21-03-15] OffGraphic: GIANT_CRAB, too late.
[21-04-03] OffGraphic: GIANT_CRAB, ralle should invent sound system to this chat.
[21-05-00] GIANT_CRAB: OffGraphic, true, true

In the above situation, if Ralle added sounds to the hive chat, we could have used it for the explosion effects. Which would make hive very exciting and fun.

And for the BBcode, the old chat had smilies which was removed when Ralle implemented the new chat system. Worse still, the old bots like TRD's, triggs, and etc, COULD NOT WORK ANYMORE!!!1111
So, I recommend the hive chat to turn into the old chat and enable sounds and BB codes.

[COLOR="Transparent]Edit: Bro tip for Ralle: Enable eval again.[/COLOR]

Edit again: Also, I think ralle should enable HTML in chat.

Lol. It took just a few minutes to fix my bot. The change wasn't that drastic.
Ralle removed the smilies due to smiley spam AFAIK. And sounds.. really? Like... REALLY?

Last, but not least, BB codes in the chat can end up looking quite ugly, especially if overused.

The eval function was removed because of a user I'm not going to mention abused it to take control over other's accounts. Besides, you can still use the address bar or the console on FF.

I added a new improvement recommendation, enabling HTML.
I think Ralle should take a consideration into it if he doesn't wants to enable BBcode because, if he enable it, it will make us learn HTML, and learning things is good. So if Ralle enable it, it's a kill 2 birds with one stone, no need to enable BB code and make us learn something useful.

By that do you mean stuff like ?o#,. appearing at where text should be?

Off-Topic: Hmm... How about we have a forum made inside Site Discussion specifically for Hive's Chat? So that suggestions like this would have a particular place for them.

Sounds aren't cool nor useful. It's a reason they are rarely used in a non-spammy way in the chats that have them.

And no, allowing HTML will allow users to really screw up the chat, even beyond repair. This will force everyone to refresh their chat every time someone abuses it, making them lose all the messages they've sent and received. The negative aspects of allowing HTML code in chat easily outnumber the positive aspects. Not only can you fuck up the chat, but you can kick people or even send them to malicious sites.

Sounds are:
  • Slow to load
  • Extremely annoying when not asked for. When a user is away to listen to music or watch videos (or at work) he/she most likely won't appreciate that "cool" sound effect.

For the html:
  • Remember when your chat gave others free html access and I used it to replace <div>'s and embed chats inside chats inside chats inside chats? :V
  • While having the option to rename links may look nice it's generally unnecessary to do so unless it is used to hide links.

It won't be slow to load,
IF hive has a 100TB dedicated server.
Running at 1TB/sec connection.
You and Xarwin, noob div'ers.

No way, Crab, I don't want any micspam or other nonsence on THW chat!
I can already imagine how all the BB codes, discovered by some noob, could effect the whole chat... the whole thing wouldn't last long.

As I said before, we have moderators, global moderators, and admins.
Also, you rarely visit the hive chat, so you are in lesser position in talk. :cgrin:

i cannot properly convey a scathing tone without italics

sure you'd /think/ that using slash would suffice, but my standards are so much higher

Yea, so BB codes should be enabled, right?
I hope you're with me, ike_ike!

the option for sounds would be extremely annoying, considering im doing other stuff most of the time.

as for the other things, idnolol :D

EDIT: okay so..
smileys were removed for a reason. I too was banned for using em before (not 100% sure, ive been banned only like 3 times, longest being like 15 minutes)
BBcodes...well, like some other people say, would be bad. reason - do i need to say? they would be abused just like smilies would.

EDIT2: abit to the sounds:
What would it result in? 7yo kids, WTFBOOM spamming and all that crap. result of that? mass-bannadar. RESULT OF THE RESULT OF THE RESULT? CORRUPT STAFF ZOMFG POWER ABUSERS ZOMFGZOMFGZOMFG.
and in the end - more bans. the end.
