First Mistake

There are so much people in hiveworkshop. I know, all of them want to do their own. We all are here, to create maps. When I was new in this community my first mistake was: "Tutorials Copying". I copied Jass codes and other users GUI's, and systems (From Tutorials). I thinked I'm creating maps by own. Don't do this mistake! You can't learn something only by copying, you have to experiment with GUI, Jass, Terrain. Becouse if you copy all what you see - You will not learn to create Good Maps (Ex. Castle Fight, DotA, or even Nooby-Map.)

Friends

We are living creatures, we have friends. If your friend says:
-You're stupid, your map lame //Don't believe him, because if you are good map maker, you won't surrender, right?

Beta Versions

I'm experienced map maker (My maps is still in progress, that's why i don't upload them), and I will give you a tip: NEVER PLAY Your BETA STAGE MAP In battle.net, becouse it will defeat you & your current project. Play your beta version only with testers. Don't believe people who are thinking that your map is lame. Be strong.

Ballance!

People doesn't like Un-fair and Unbalanced map's. They wont play it, if your team has only strong heroes, and game object is to kill a nerd! They will say: This is a shit! //And they will be right! So think what are you creating! If you are creating team-work Game, like DotA or something else, be shure to create ballanced heroes.
If hero has 200-200attack when he's 1lvl his attack Cooldown should be greater than 3.

Idea

If you want to create a good map you must get an Idea, because people can't stand FUNNY (Stupid) maps. Like, Look I'm Grunt (Map ). Some people can't create maps, because they're too much retarded. Retarded people creates porno maps in warcraft! I can't stand those freaks! So every time, you want to create map think about idea and originality. Players won't play a copy of Footmans. Your map must be One&Only

I don't really get the title, is this a tutorial about "working"? How so? :s

Other common mistakes:
  • Repeating a question that's been asked a million times before.
Solution: use the "search" button in the forums-section, do your research.
  • Uploading your recourse too soon - this will result in your recourse getting rejected (you'll only dissapoint yourself).
Solution: criticise your own work, what can you add/change to make it better? Don't be too soft on yourself.
  • Arguing with moderators - a loss is a loss, accept it and come back stronger.
    Solution: don't do it.
  • Flaming (most common reasons: negative comments, someone doesn't agree with your opinion) - accept other peoples' opinions, seek the truth in their message and if there is no truth in it and you feel like you can't control yourself, press "unsubscribe".
I don't really know if this contributes to your tutorial, but I thought I'd mention it (since it has to do with "first mistake", although these are just "common mistakes").

Friends:

If your friend says "you're stupid, your map lame", are you sure you can call him a friend?
Find people that you like and with which you can share your ideas, people you can trust and would never accuse of stealing something, someone worthy to be called a "friend".

Critics

People (this includes me) can be very hard with their reviews, do not feel offended by this (unless it really is offending, hit the "reported post"-button in that case), try to understand where you've gone wrong and how to fix it.
If you cannot do it yourself, you've got a few options: 1. accept and ignore it (not the best idea) / 2. Post the question in the hive's help section (don't forget to search first!) / 3. Learn how to do it! I find this the best solution.

Uhmm... I hope I adressed some relevant points here ^^
Anyway, if this is what I think it is (a basic how-to-be-a-hiveworkshopper guide), then I like the idea :p

Yes, ap0calypse it is what you think. I'm just created original name for it. I think much people doesn't understand how-to-learn GUI, or JASS. What they can do is only Terrain or Simple Mods without any modding.

P.S. Its about typical working. When people says: I'm working really hard on my project (Probably, he lies he just copy tutorial GUI, (Or JASS), or copies it from unprotected map. That's what I wanted to mean.)

Umm, well very often it`s exactly in other way. Many people at BNet doesn`t know how to create a map where for example the doors can be opened (Wow!!!!) so when they see this they think it`s great.
Also some of them like funny (very often just stupid) maps so they write to author that it`s amazing. Then he uploads it at EpicWar, click on every link at botom of the page, gets to Hive, register, upload his "amazing" map here, the map gets rejected, he flame and create a thread at Off-Topic that Hive is bad.
