I made a map accidentally using the normal melee mods and assets however I cannot use the special models and stuff from campaign units so is there a simple way to regain the usage of campaign assets or do i have to make an entirely new map rendering all the hard work I have already done a huge waste of time?

You change them the same way you change the references to any mods you want your map to depend on.

From the menu bar...
File->Dependencies...
The mods you are after are under the "Add Standard..." button.

The game engine loads mods from the top of the dependency list to the bottom. Any redecleration of data modifies what was previously loaded for an entry. Data declared in your map will overwrite all imported data so can be imagined as a mod below all dependency entries.

StarCraft II Editor has been known to load depenencies differently from the actual StarCraft II Client. An example is that complex dependency structures might result in the Editor failing to load mods past a certain dependent mod but the actual Client will load all mods on the list.
