Is pretty much that, I saw some maps with images on terrain like a picture covering a part of the ground. How can I do that?

You can also make the terrain itself into an image like...

Well images are really fast, so using ubersplats (== type 4 images) as tiles should work. Keep in mind that scaling down images reduces their performance, but as long as you dont want to zoom in really far this shouldnt be an issue. Also you need the images to have a transparent border of 1 pixel to avoid the "border bug" which stretches the border pixels around all around the image (this happens if you for example use icons as images). You can use BlpLab to create such a transparent border.

@DatC3: no point in using dummyunits, images are much faster.
