How can you preview a special effect ?

I'm not familiar with how most spell effects look like in warcraft 3 and I wonder if there is a way to preview special effects the way you can preview a unit model in the editor ?

It would be handy for custom spell creation to know what an effect would look like instead of doing trial and error loading the game each time to see the effect.

The WE has a built-in model viewer if that's what you mean. It allows you to preview any model you import.

If you mean the lightning effects, SFX formations (like a circle of frost novas) then I don't think you have any other way to do it than trial and error.

You can always open any object that uses a model, go to the model field, open it, then find the model you wanna see, it will be shown on the left side of the terrain editor...
