Dear Hiveworkshoppers,

First of all: A happy Christmas to all! Happy holidays!

And now for my problem (sorry about the short part of praise and a longer text about my problem :hohum: ).
For a map that I am creating, Grawind (which will come here eventually I think ;) ), I have run into a problem.

My level capacity is level 100. That's nice and stuff, but when its concerns magical spells (exspecially with mages with spells like; Flame Strike, Chain Lightning, Blizzard): ...I'm stuck.

I can't seem to manage the damage that their spells will matter at higher levels; it becomes to strong, or to weak. Does anyone has an idea which can save me a lot of hours testing time and frustration?

Maybe something that will let the caster use his/her Intelligence to amplify his/her damage.

I don't know anything about things like JASS, by the way.

I hope somebody can help me out. Credit where appropiate of course!

Sincerely, with thanks in advance,

Rick

You could try this:
First, you give the mages the spells you want them to be able to learn. Then, you change lumber (or whatever) to something called "Spell Points" or whatever you want to call it. So give each spell a "Learning Cost", preferably equal to the level of the spell or something. Then when a hero learns the spell, if he/she does not have enough spell Points (granted from levelling or something), he/she cannot learn that spell. The spell learning system could be like a spellbook, casting one of the spell there would level the actual spell.

Another way to balance the spells is to reduce the amount of levels. Maybe if you maxed a spell, you can learn another spell which is stronger but with only a few levels. E.G. You learn level 20 chain lightning (maybe), you become able to learn another spell, say forked lightning, which deals more damage and stuff.
