Does the import file have a .blp?

If it does, try making a folder named "Textures" in the "Warcraft III" folder. Put the .blp files in there.

Then, when you import it in world editor, change the default path to "Textures\<filename>.blp

If that doesn't work, post what you have tried and what type of model you are trying to upload.

1. You extract the downloaded file to desktop.
2. You import it in the import manager.
3. You replace the file .blp with w/e name it tells u eg. war3mapImported\Something.blp
= Something.blp THE CREATOR OF THE FILE WILL TELL U IF YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE .BLP OR NOT AND WILL TELL YOU WITH WAT. then you save and then you EXIT WORLD EDITOR and re-open it (sometimes you needa do this) and then u load it. Hope that helps

That's the same stuff mentioned in the general Import tutorial on this forum. Doesn't really help me. My issue at the moment is about adding a skin to a model. I tried to replace the default VillagerMale.blp skin with a downloaded skin, but I can only see the correct skin if I use the Wc3 Viewer and go to 'Remap textures...', change the default skin to the skin I downloaded and change 'Activate?' to Yes. If it's said on No, I still get the default skin. That also causes the model in the World Editor to be seen in the default skin.

Not sure if qwq1234's problem is the same or is caused by the same source, but if anybody can help me, it would be very much appreciated. If you need the map, model and skin, please post. I don't have access to these files right now, but I will attach them to a new post here if anybody needs them to solve the problem.

Sigh.

Import the model file.
Import the model skins (if it needs any).
Rename the skins (set their paths) to that which the model expects (you can see that on the model download page).
Save your map.
Close both WC3 (if open) and WE (although it should just work with closing WE).
Make sure WE is fully closed (closing the map will not do it, WE has to be properly and fully shut down).
Reopen WE (after WE is shut down fully).
Reload your map.
Then make a unit or any other such object use the imported model by using the name you imported it as (the path of the imported model file and not any of the skins).
The model should work fine.

If it still does now work, then check if ingame it shows, which it should and just forget about seeing it in WE.

If after all the above it still does not work, then you did it wrong or are importing a curropted or invalid model. I recomend then repeating these steps or steps from other tutorials until you get it to work and if it still does not work report the model as defective.

That's exactly as it is described in the Import tutorial, but it doesn't work.
As said in my previous post: The model also doesn't show in-game.
I did it over and over again, but always the same effect.

I'll attach the map and model/skin to this post, then you can take a look at it. I probably just did something wrong, because I had such a problem before.

How's that possible? The model is a straight extracted file from the MPQ (Done with Wc3 Viewer).

Either way, I've done it again and extracted to a complete new file, but it gives the exact same problem. I must've done something wrong with changing the skin.

It's correct that I'm supposed to add the skin to the list when I open the MDX in Notebook, right?

How can the model be broken if it's been directly extracted from the MPQ?

And how come I'm not the only person who experienced the exact same problem if they to the same steps? It's not the model, it got to be a mistaken step, but I don't know what. I think it's in the Notebook editing. When I enter the path in the Notebook file of the MDX, it fails to find the model. Before I do that, it shows the default skin.

Do you have any very accurate description of how to do that part? It might save the day.

You can change and corrupt a model file from the MPQ quite easily. Think about this. If you use a custom text model (go to the box in the Object Editor that says "Custom Text Model" and just type in hfg.mdx) it comes up with a blank model, because there is no model. The same thing happens with your model, thus the game can't read it meaning you either a) fail at importing or b) have a corrupt model.

I'm guessing it's a, but b is also a possibility.

I do everything as told in the Import tutorial, and I have no failures at models I downloaded here and imported. Those work just fine, so I think option A can be deleted. So if you're right and my model is corrupted, how do I make sure I have a good VillagerMale copy that uses only the Suit skin I downloaded here?

Link to the model download link on this site of the model you can not import.

None of our models are directly extracted from the MPQ all are custom made or atleast custom skinned.

I think it's in the Notebook editing. When I enter the path in the Notebook file of the MDX, it fails to find the model. Before I do that, it shows the default skin.
If you notebook edited the model, then that ups the chance to 99% that it is damage or curropt as you have made changes to the model and thus the model is no longer assured to work.

If its just a skin, import it over the default skin WC3 uses for the villager.

If you want both skins available, use a program like war3modeleditor to change the skin path as it is easier and more reliable as it seldomly makes mistakes.

Avator, if you downloaded the model from the hive, then do the next:

Delete the file you downlaoded
Re-download it.
extract it
check under(or up) the link which say "DOWNLOAD X MODEL" say ¿not sure how to import this model?
click that and check how you have to import it
import it as the automatic-tutorial say
enjoy the model

i think what that one guy was trying to say about option a and option b for what's wrong when he was talking about option a i'm pretty sure he was talking about a sitation like where you have to change the pathname in the import editor. whoever made the model apparently told the map maker what pathname to use. and it sounds like you don't know what that path is? i didn't see you say that you had the correct one. if you can open the map and check out the import editor then the pathname should be in there for you to use. if that doesn't work then idk what the problem is.

It's a skin I downloaded, and it's this skin. I know it's not approved, because it doesn't look good, but I see nobody complaining about failure in using it, so that can't be the problem.

As said: I downloaded the skin from the Skins section, but the model is a straight extraction from my war3(x).MPQ file. It's just the VillagerMale model made by Blizzard.

EDIT: Problem is solved. It seems I made a mistake attaching the skin to the model. Now the skin and model work correctly! Thanks everybody for your time and effort, but there's still a problem unsolved: qwq1234's problem! After all, he's the person who started this thread.

What exactly did you change about the model? Then I mean stuff in Notebook, Warcraft 3 Viewer, War3 Model Editor, Import Manager, Object Manager, related files (skin and portrait), and anything else you used to just open or show the model.
