Help: Exporting (Paying For Help!!)

I will PAY someone (through Paypal) to properly assist me with an issue I'm having, seeing as how I'm just not turning up results.

I have multiple Star Trek models (user-made) that I am opening in Autodesk 3ds Max 2010, and everything imports fine.

I'm using an M3 exporter, which doesn't seem to work properly as when I import the model to SC2 it shows nothing. Also the exporter isn't properly exporting the textures.

So far I've been trying to mess with adding StarCraft II materials to the model however all of the 'textures' are in the form of materials so when I apply the StarCraft II materials it deletes all the detail on the ship.

There must be a way to generate a Bitmap from the current materials used.. I just cant figure out how.

This is so antagonising.. I want to get started on my map and I'm looking at the completed models but I cant reach out and touch them.

I'll immediately send you some money if you can solve the issue! :)

Is the IP for that model not owned by a company other than Activision Blizzard?

I advise asking this to...
1. The program makers.
2. The exporter makers.
3. The model makers.

This is a bit too specalist to be answered here.

The model was created by a trek fan. The copywrites belong to him as it is his creation. Though the idea came from the show, it is not an exact duplicate, not to mention none of it is being used to make money.. I mean maybe if you consider me paying someone to help me export it but I doubt that counts as revenue.

That's like saying if you draw the picture of a Toyota Carolla and post it on a wall in the public that Toyota should be compensated for their idea. If anything it's a form of free advertisement.

I own a 3DS max licence which was not cheap to say the least.. that's all the permission I need from them.

The exporter is an open resource provided by the users of Sc2Mapster.com.

Depends on how they licensed it. The old enterprise probably is fine as that was before insane IP existed but the design from the newer series might be heavily protected.

Yet if you go around singing a song to yourself out aloud such as those from Madona then the music companies demand you pay them. Even if you sing them out of tune or only parts of them. Law is not fair at times as people want to make as much money from other people as they can.

That purly gives you permission to use the software to create models and retain ownership to the models created as well as sell the models commercially that you make (assuming you have the full liscence and not a student edition which does not have that final clause). The art of the models you make is an entirly different legal battle, one that I know exists but know little about the specifics.

If it were a Mickey Mouse or Aladdin model, I can assure you that Disney would take legal action as long as it was visually recognizable as those characters. The owners of Star Trek might be more lenient though but that is purely up to them.

As I said the problem is very specialist and not something people like me can help you with. You could try a forum that specializes on 3Dmax work as they might no tricks how to do things. Alternatively you could try asking one of the code committers for the actual exporter as they might know work around solutions for their exporter (or even write you a patch that will allow it to work).
