Al, I know you like correcting many Paillan's typos, and most of the time I don't mind, but this was not one of them. I support you when your intentions are to teach him improve his grammar, but not if all you want is to bully him for no reason.
To be on the other side of something, means to be behind it - he obviously meant on the continent that is placed on the other side of the ocean. That sentence makes perfect sense - even if it wasn't completely grammatically correct you would still understand it. Besides, you gotta admit it sounds stupid to say that one was at the other side of the ocean and a continent
